Just got mine and set it up on my Little Gracie quilt frame. I also got the stitch regulator with it. Quilt is mounted and ready to go! Just need a little courage to get going on it.

WOW! Connie,
That looks like a monster. I would be a little daunted by that, too. |
Connie- don't forget to drop your feed dogs, turn the tension to the top and stitch length to 0. (Don't ask me how I know)
|
Another "don't ask me how I know..."
Don't forget to drop the presser foot. The tension discs don't engage unless you do. Then, you have a HUGE mess on the back side of your quilt!  I have the same set-up and I LOVE IT!!!!!! |
I have the same machine on a Grace GMQ Pro. LOVE IT !!!!!
Like the others here I too have had to learn some lessons. I am forever forgetting to dop the pressor. Its very easy to forget. |
I'm looking forward to your posts, I'm leaning towards getting the Juki with the Grace GMQ Pro as soon as my tax refund comes in (I'm counting down)... I haven't bought anything big for me (house doesn't count) in ages and since I have the room for it, I'm jumping in both feet first...

At first I had a little problems getting tensions set, but a couple of quilts later I had it down! I love my machine and frame. I recently got the pattern perfect and LOVE IT! I am working on a beautiful dresden plate topper now from an estate sale and I LOVE how it is coming along.
|
Santa brought me one a year ago. I don't have the stitch regulator though  . I have it on my Grace frame and love it. And I love the speed....and the thread cutter....and the needle up/down.....and well....
Hope you enjoy yours too  |

Ok got brave and did 1 row across. Had to tear it out. My feed dogs were down, the presser food was down and the stitch length was set to 0. Now what do I need to do to the tension. What do you set yours at? What a mess I had on the back! Good thing this is a baby quilt and not a queen size! My son bought me the frame at a garage sale for $100 for Mother's Day 2008. I was using an old Bernina on it.....it worked great! Also my quilt seems to be set a little high from the throat of the machine at the needle. The quilt is not touching the plate. Should it? I need the space in the back for the take-up but should I lower the front a bit? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the tension on the left side front- set it all the way at the top (like unscrewing it)
make sure your top and bobbin thread are the same, my Juki likes them the same. Every time I change the bobbin I have a practice sandwich handy to be sure nothing has changed- that way the quilt doesn't get rats nests. I've never really had any issues with the machine so I probably wouldn't be good for help. :( I just smile at it alot and tell everyone how much I love it so it behaves for me. |
woo hoo!!! Just love that machine! Make sure you read the directions that come with the machine, for stippling. If you don't lower your feed dogs and lower your pressure foot, you will not be happy. Tension and stitch lenght also need to be adjusted.
Enjoy that great machine.... It also does great chain piecing... |
Thanks to all who have posted... I can't tell you how excited I am already.
According to UPS, it will be here tomorrow. I'm already planning the new cozy.... And, I already downloaded the manuals, so I'm going to read them tonight! |

Thanks so much for the tension hint. Will try again today. I did some chain stitching on it to get the feel of it. FAST! It takes off like a hot sports car! A little noisy but beautiful stitches. I normally use a Janome 10001 for piecing.

It's here, It's here, It's here!!!
I ordered it 2 days ago - and it arrived today! This is the fastest machine I've ever operated. I love it already. Nice, clean stitches, too. One thing I couldn't figure out: auto threader.... Anyone have tricks, tips? |
I couldn't figure it out so I just thread it like normal. So I guess until I can't see the little hole in the needle, I'll keep doing it the old way.
oh- my FAVORITE thing- ok, one of my favorites- there is so much to love!- I LOVE the automatic thread cutter! That's the little pair of scissors button on the machine, or the other pedal on the floor. I am so lazy, when I used my Rose, I was really missing it! Can't wait to see your results!!! |

The speed and the auto thread cutter are my favorite things so far, too.
I did already a little trial of the strings pattern... It's not yet ironed, but it's my first stitches with this machine. |
I forgot about the thread cutter on the foot pedal!!! I had to disconnect mine from the machine. My quilt inspector(Tink) thinks that the red pedal for the cutter was a target for her to sit on........ I was sewing and the thread kept cutting. I kept hearing that cutting sound and looking at the machine and kept sewing and couldn't figure it out until I wasn't stitching anymore and the noise continued. Tink's Butt was attached to the pedal and she just sat there smiling at me........

I can understand your excitement. I felt the same way. Isn't it the greatest to sew on. I still haven't got the nerve to get to top speed on mine. It moves sooooooo fast.
|
How exciting! CONGRATS!! You will have to keep us posted on your new baby over there!! I'm excited for you!!LOL For all of you out there w/this Juki...what is the throat space? Thanks Skeat
|
Skip the threader. I have yet to find one that really works. It is just faster to thread that needle the old fashioned way. I am 60 and can still do this. If you have trouble threading any machine; a piece of white paper behind the needle will help. My throat space is 7 X 9. I did not get the thread cutter....for $100 I will cut my own thread and spent the $100 on FABRIC. My Bernina 640 (sold it a couple of months ago) had a thread cutter. Every time I used it I had to re-thread the machine becasue it cut the thread too short. They never could get that problem fixed.

I have one also...just love it! I find that I do most of my sewing with it even though I have a Janome I could use. The only thing I could wish for with it is a zigzag stitch [well a stitch regulator would be nice but I haven't found one for it yet] I even used it when I made my 'Greats' [Great-Granddaughters] flower girl dresses last year.
|
I also recovered a chair and used the Juki to sew the fabric. I was a bit worried that I might mess up the tension, but no, right back to work with piecing- no problem at all!
just love this machine! |
