I've had Quilt for Kids quilts for toooo long a time.
Goal today was to FINISH FINISH FINISH them - 2 hours max. As I was nearing the end of quilting the second quilt. my machine started acting up. Changed the needle when I started today. Sewed just fine for 2 hours. . . then the thread start to break and the tension is off . . . tried rethreading 2 or 3 times then I just walked away - about 3 feet short of being FINISHED!!! :( :( Ughhhhhhhhhh |
sometimes that is the best thing to do. JUst walk away and come back to it later on.. sorry you had such a bad time..
I hope that when you go back to your machine, the problem resolves itself (((HUGS)))
That is what I do. If I didn't I would do something bad to my machine.
Hope your project went better after taking a break from it. That's the best thing you could have done for yourself and your quilt project. Been there! Hugs!
Sometimes you just gave to walk away- nothing wrong with that
When mine did that, it had lint in the bobbin area.
Sometimes you have to just walk away. A friend of mine was just finishing putting the binding on her first quilt the other day...then her needle broke. Fine, change the needle...then her bobbin ran out...fine, but she didn't have any back up, so she had to wind one...fine, but then the spool of thread ran out when she was winding the bobbin - she did have an extra spool, but saw it as the third sign. She finally said after the third thing in a row went wrong that she quit. She said she had ignored the first two signs in a row that her quilt was not to be finished that night and wasn't going to ignore the third LOL
Sometimes you just have to walk away. I know I do because if I don't, I may just throw my machine out the window. LOL |
Yep, sometimes it is best to walk away, when you do come back sometimes you seen things differently and can solve the problem. No sweat
You did the right thing.
Don't feel alone in that sometimes the best solution, try again another day!! Really cool when ya don't have to, Finished a Baby top this morning Yah, now off to laundry :(
and house work :( , guess I better get off here first ;) |
sometimes that is the best thing to do. if i have to pull the samething out 2 times i put it up.
I was embroidering a turkey on a t-shirt last night when it began to act up. The turkey looked like it was molting! The threads were breaking and all looked awful. I even changed the needle. I put it all away and before I started today, I took apart the machine and gave it a thorough cleaning. Like my sister said, just one speck of dust can through the whole thing off. Today it made a nice turkey. :) And, I didn't kill the machine.
So frustrating. Start anew tomorrow. Rethread everything, do a little cleaning, needle changing and hold your tongue right. We'll be right here with you when you conquer!
My Mom always said,"sew on Friday, pick out on Monday." And you know what ? It sure came true for me many times, including what I sewed yesterday! Always knew I should listen to Mom!!LOL

Walk away, have a coke or coffee, watch a movie and then go back. I do great and when I hit a snag, sometimes it just gets my goat and i have to walk away too. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
Hugs! Today will be better!!!!!!!!
Sometimes I'll lay in bed at night after an episode like that and I'll think of all the thing it might be. The next morning I go in and check ALL of those things and usually come up with a solution. Frustration requires a "rest" period. BTW, don't know what kind of thread you are using, but I've tried some of the cheaper threads and found I have all kinds of problems with skipping and breaking. I think long arms are very picky! Mine likes King Tut on the top and Bottom Line in the bobbin. If you are using a cheap thread for your charity quilts, you might try changing and see if the breaking stops.

Walking away sometimes lets those bad little gremlins escape.....lol

Oh yeah, quilting. I'm marching right along side you. |
I say check the dust bunnies by the bobbin, thats what works for me
Same thing happens to me with this computer.
If I don't walk away I won't have a computer - seems like this machine has the ability to turn a mild mannered Grandma into a monster. You did the right thing |
HEY DEBBIE - I LOVE the pelican and the frog!
Well I checked for dust bunnies in the bobbin area and they're were not too many. Then I opened the upper part and there were quite a few. So I vacuumed. It continued fraying the thread - but I made it work. Not my best work - not even something to be happy with. But they're DONE and waiting for me to buy some dye catchers so I can wash them before mailing. Hoping it was the THREAD I used - or maybe the new needle - or maybe the combination of the thread and needle. Guess I'll never know though - cause I'm throwing both of them away when I go near the machine again! Thanks QUILTERS!!!! |
Where do you long-arm quilters buy you Bottom Line thread for your bobbins?
Bottom line is made by Superior and I buy it where I can find it the cheapest. Just Google it and check around. Be sure and take a look at the shipping fees.
Thanks for the information.
