I love thrift stores!
SOMEONE around here seriously downsized their fabric stash. I found a whole table at the local thrift shop loaded down with large pieces of fabric, all neatly marked as far as fabric type/fiber content and dimensions. I wanted about a third of the fabric on that table, but I limited myself to some large 100% cotton pieces I can use as quilt backs.
I got 2 matching floral pieces that were 9+ yards each and a solid piece that was 13 yards. Paid $41 after tax; so that's about 75 cents per yard. And they're in perfect colors to go with a set of quilts I'm making right now and need backs for, so these aren't going into the stash, they'll get used right away! None are marked on the selvage as to who made it but it feels like good solid fabric. Nice and clean, too, and no fading on the folds - someone obviously took good care of their fabric. WOOHOO! I feel like I really scored. :) |
congrats! ... so fun to get a bargain

Wow, I love to find bargains like this. Good for you.

Hmmm, what thrift store? I might have to check that out. Is it a store in Santa Rosa?

Great buy! Congrats. My local thrift stores never seem to carry any fabric at all. Sometimes they will carry sewing patterns and the occasional quilt book. Good for you that yours carries what sounds like great things! :)

sounds like a miracle.

I know...usually when I find fabric it's small pieces, and seems like it is always either faded and/or has a funky smell. This was in beautiful shape and such nice large pieces! I think I might go back after work today when I have more time and dig and see what else I can find. Although I wasn't alone in digging through that pile! A lot of it was rayon or blends but I saw plenty of cotton and even some denim. Hopefully all the good stuff isn't gone yet.
