A while back I was given a suggestion of how to cut down on my hand-sewing with my poor achy, stiff fingers.
Sometimes I handprint on the quilt, but I prefer to attach an actual label that I made by typing on computer and adding a photo. This time I tried Klue's advice to machine-sew my label onto the rod sleeve when I make that.... It worked so great! Now, the only hand-sewing I have to do is attaching the rod sleeve and the folded binding onto the back. I just do 10-15min a night and it eventually gets done. Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone here for being such a wealth of info, ideas and support. Cathy |
Good News, Cathy, must mean you are almost finished. Look forward to pics when done.

I've done that. I'd put a piece of Heat and Bond on, iron it, then stitch a pretty stitch around the outside of it. That's IF I remember BEFORE I put the backing on

i'm so glad you like it and its working well for you.
now i'll tell you how to machine sew the hanging sleeve. this method works on any quilt with a border. cut your hanging sleeve the length you need plus enough for hemming the side. i cut the height of my hanging sleeve at around 10 inches hem the sides of the hanging sleeve on the sewing machine, i sew a 1/2 hem and then i fold it again and stitch it - this way there isn't a raw edge showing. then i pin the center of the opened hanging sleeve on the back of the quilt where a border seam from the front would be. then stitch in the ditch of that border. this attaches the hanging sleeve to the back of the quilt. fold the hanging sleeve up to the top of the quilt and trim any excess and pin in place. when you attach the binding to the quilt it will stitch the top of the hanging sleeve in place. i also do all my binding by machine too. i stitch the binding to the front of the quilt, then i fold the binding over to the back, i glue the edges down, and then i stitch in the ditch on the front in the binding seam. that stitch in the ditch catches the binding on the back and everything is sewn in place. |
Very clever, Klue, gonna have to try that!

Thanks, Klue. I'm usually so happy when I finish a project that I delay attaching the hanging sleeve. Your method sounds easy and would be done while finishing. No excuses now to roll it up and toss it in the closet. Thanks for explaining this so clearly.
