I interviewed with a local company today that makes drapery. I asked them what they do with their scraps. They throw them away. I asked if I could have them for charity quilts. They said yes. If you do charity quilts and would like to pay the shipping to get some of these please PM me and I will see what I can do. I know I will not be able to use all that I am likely to receive. Just testing the water to see what interest there is at this point. Thanks.

Are you in New England? Any place close to Nashua, NH?? There used to be several fabric factories in the surrounding area, especially in Lowell and Lawrence, MA, but most have closed or moved. Would love to know of any outlets in the area!!

Also,as to dsb38327's question about fabric care.... when I had access to an outlet for deco materials, the sales people said most of them can be washed but they'll probably lose any sheen they might have. This has certainly been true of drapes that I've made but sheen or no sheen, they still look good.

QBeth, Osgood's is in the Springfield, Mass area. It's an interesting store with tons of fabric. Their quilting area isn't real big, but they have lots and lots of upholstry fabrics. I believe they're closed on Saturdays, but it's worth a drive there just to see it. Wear comfy shoes! :)

I doubt I will get any care instrurctions. These will likely be utility quilts made and you take your chances. I just really hate to see anything go to waste that can be used.

How about useing the fabric for tote bags to shop with at the grocery store.

This sounds like a great idea. Would also probably make nice utility quilts.

As for the care instructions, I've washed drapes in the past with no problems, even though they said dry clean only. Maybe just wash and dry the fabric before cutting to take care of shrinkage, etc. (Most of us do that anyway.)
