I was helping at the quilt shop today in Kearney, and I had a nice lady and her daughters (I think) stop in to shop. They shopped for a while and had me cut some beautiful fabrics. We chatted a little bit and she happened to mention that she was on the Quilting board. I said "I am too!"... I found out it was Mary Koch. We were both suprised, but a little excited to meet another board member. It was the best part of the day!

That's great to have a face to face chat with a board member. How fun!

My new home is near Hastings, (if we ever finish this move!), I will pop in some day. Is this shop the one downtown?

oldswimmer 10-01-2010 02:57 AM

Yes it is Quilters Cottage downtown. 2220 Central. You are going to have nice shops in the tri-cities. All three with a little different "flavor". You will HAVE to check out Material Girl in Grand Island.....especially if you like the modern/retro stuff. The one in Hastings is really nice too. I used to cross paths with the owner, Sue, in Hastings because we were both in Extension Work for UNL.
Welcome to Nebraska!

It was exciting to meet you. A really big surprise. Thank you for helping me.

I have had the honor of meeting two of the board members and I now have a very best friend. I am so thankful for this board.

I met a board member last week too. Saw where she said she lived in West Bend and I do too so I sent her a pm, private message. We met at Hobby Lobby where she works on Wed. I hope to become better acquainted with her and perhaps we can go to quilt shows together. Always room for another friend and I "collect" daughters.

It's good to meet someone you "know" and someone who has the same addiction as you.

Did any of you from Nebraska get to Grand Island yesterday or today for Threads? To people elsewhere in our world, Threads is a yearly event sponsored by the Nebraska State Quilt Guild. They hang quilts from all the guilds in the state, plus lots of vendors. Next year it will be in Kearney, so we can shop the Kearney shops as well as others on the way to and from the show.

IBQUILTIN 10-02-2010 05:19 PM

How fun!!! What a nice way to get a quilting friendship started

I gotta tell ya that there are some members of this board whose quilts I just love, each & every quilt they share with us. When I see a name of one of these quilters posted (especially in the pictures section), I HAVE to look, immediately, to see what the latest masterpiece is. Mary Koch is one of those quilters. I LOVE her quilts ... I probably would have followed her home if I was to meet her!

sassey 10-02-2010 06:32 PM

Dakotamaid I am in Hastings everyother month and stay 3 weeks maybe we can meet up at one of the quilt shops. Be sure to go to Material girl in GI it is the best

Quilt Mom 10-03-2010 04:31 AM

I can echo the thoughts on the shops in the tri-cities area. They are great! I stop in occassionally when I visit my girls in Kearney. Next time I'll have to ask about board members! Never thought to do that before. My older DD likes to go with me to Quilters Cottage, because she can usually get me to start a new project for her that way!!
