I was trying to convince DH to let me get the 10" squares of Tonga Treats Hard Candy to make the 10 minute quilt blocks. For my birthday a few months ago, I had bought the 2 1/2" strips of the Hard Candy colorway. So while trying to convince him, I figured I would show him how pretty the colors are. So I threw open my fabric closet... can't see the strips. I figured they're buried... went digging, dropped a tupperware of safety pins on my foot... knocked over my WIP shelf... and the strips are nowhere to be found. He pointed out that I really didn't need more fabric if I couldn't keep track of what I have... I'm buying the squares anyway

BIG mistake, showing him where you stash your fabric!! And I say go buy the fabric, have fun

LucyInTheSky 11-29-2010 06:03 PM

He knows where the stash is. When we were house hunting, there had to be an office and the closet was 100% for fabric. And is about 75% full. I told him he had to accept me and my fabric as a package deal or I wouldn't marry him :D

LOL :D

That totally cracks me up, sounds like something that could happen at my house.

Too funny!

My man lately is in the studio with me. He has figured out if he wants to see me then he better visit there. LOL He is my biggest enabler and supporter though.

My husband's the same...except he informed our guest yesterday " that he is allowed in the sewing room...only if a broom is attached" No wonder I married him LOL

sandyl 11-30-2010 03:50 AM

Been there and done that. Too funny when it's someone else tho.

watterstide 11-30-2010 03:55 AM

My husbands garage is worse than my sewing room..and when he can't find that tool he needs, he buys another..

no better or worse than me!
the fabric will turn up..as soon as you go out and buy the replacement..then you will have to just deal with having 2!
not a bad thing! 8-)

leonajo 11-30-2010 03:57 AM

U will find it AFTER u have given up looking and bought replacement fabric!!!!!!! thats what happens to me! Go look agin, it could be setting out in the open, hiding from u. lol

mimiknoxtaylor 11-30-2010 04:45 AM

I do the same thing! Have been trying to get organized but new fabric keeps catching my eye

raptureready 11-30-2010 06:56 AM

LOL Go buy it anyway and more strips too. I've been looking for specific fabric and had a whole stack of "set aside to get it out of the way" fabric fall on me and it took me several minutes to dig my way out. Now I make sure the stacks don't go above my head when I'm sitting on the floor. DD and I were trying to sort some of my stash and I came across fabrics I don't remember buying or obtaining in any way. Must have been the quilt fairies..... surely I would forget.....

qwkslver 11-30-2010 07:59 AM

I may be able to top that. My SIL just found some fleece I have been looking for for about 3 years now. I knew I had it but I couldn't remember where I put it.

leiladylei54 11-30-2010 08:07 AM

I can soooooo relate!!!

Leota 11-30-2010 08:10 AM

My hubby said that after we finish our addition for my mother, that he may have to take up quilting so he has a place to go to get away from her ha ha..
He is my favorite supporter of my hobby

Mariposa 11-30-2010 08:49 AM

My hubby is only interested in my sewing projects when it is for him. Otherwise, he steers clear!

amandasgramma 11-30-2010 09:20 AM

Oh, honey -- NEVER EVER EVER let him see your stash!!!!! Good grief, girl!!!! Yes, buy some anyway --- maybe it'll help you get your head on straight. And any man that would say "you don't need any more".....welllllllll, maybe you need marriage counseling????????????????? ROL!

Iluv2quilt 11-30-2010 09:37 AM

Sorry about your foot! I hope you find your fabric soon, good luck!!

ann clare 11-30-2010 01:26 PM

Never, never let him see ALL your stash. Would not be good for him.

craftyone27 11-30-2010 01:32 PM

I had a similar experience recently. My DH and kids spent an afternoon helping me clean out the household stuff that didn't belong on my sewing room. I then made an attempt to organize things on my new fabric shelf. Couldn't for the life of me find the Tonga Dimes kit I ordered from Keepsake Quilting. Searched everywhere and was just at a complete loss. Then something made me think to look in one of my project totes. The only thingthat normally travels in there is my hand-pieced grandmother's flower garden WIP. For some silly reason, I had put the Tonga Dimes in w/the WIP. Problem solved - but boy do I know how you feel!! Oh and BTW - go ahead and order the fabric you want - if you can't find it he never will! LOL!!

maryb119 11-30-2010 01:33 PM

My DH saw my stash and said "You must have a couple hundred dollars worth of fabric in there!" I just said..."Yeah...." and smiled. What he doesn't know won't hurt him.

I did that the other day with the bobbin case that stores under the sewing arm. Had to force myself to sit and sew instead of looking for it. 10 min. later, voila, right in plain view.
As soon as you buy more you'll find the other. Sometimes I sit and think through my steps from the purchase to "Where in the world did I have to move it to now?" So frustrating to be interrupted constantly and have to keep moving things. Getting organized isn't that easy, and staying that way takes effort too. But is worth it.
