I have 16 blocks( would not all fit on wall) and they are 16" square. I would use the cream color to sash. What do you think I should do? I have not decided on the boarders yet but I know i will have the middle block on each corner of boarders. thanks for your help. It seems when you look at your work for a long time it is hard to see from other point of view.

I like it without the sashing.

Me too. Very striking just the way it is.

I like it best without the sashing.

Dina 01-29-2014 03:04 PM

I am trying to decide, as each looks really good. You sure can't go wrong either way you select. It is a beautiful quilt, and such a wise use of your focal fabric. Just three fabrics too...I am going to have to make one of these. Do you need it to be larger? That may make a difference. Nope... I can't cast a vote either way because both look good to me.

No sashing for me. Love the quilt the way it is.

BTW, where did you get the deer fabric? I love it!

If you have enough fabric maybe another row of black and white leaves between the pictures without sashing.

pocoellie 01-29-2014 03:12 PM

Here's another one that likes it much better without the sashing, it isn't a law that a quilt must have sashing or borders. It looks great though, you're doing a great job on it.

sewingsuz 01-29-2014 03:28 PM

I got the fabric at the quilt show we had her in October. it says on salvage Wilderness lodge by Studio E a division go Jaftex Corp. 100 percent cotton www.studioefabrics.com Patt# 2108 The leaf print I used was corrdinate. The black i found has little bear paws in it.

I agree that the board is the greatest! It has advanced my progress in a never ending learning experience called quilting.

I like it with out the sashing but also think that a narrower sashing, maybe 1 to 1 1/2" would not be so overwhelming to the blocks.Try making the sashing about one third the width of the pieced strip. They are 4" so try 1 1/4" wide. I like the cream color and wouldn't red corner stones be awesome!
Either way will be very nice.
peace

left out a word

If I were making this quilt, I'd go without the sashing. However,if I were to want sashing, I'd do it with narrow sashing as "ube quilting" suggests. If I were adding borders to this quilt,I'd see how it would look with a narrow strip of border using the white/cream first, then either the leaf print or black print or all three with granulating size border strips out ,binding with the black.Just some thoughts to confuse you with.Ha! Another suggestion is to walk away from it for a few hours or length of time, that it looks fresh when looking at it again. It can help you with your decisions with the" should I or shouldn't I" when it comes to these types of decisions.Fresh approach. It helps me.In any case, I have loved this from your very start of it,and it is so lovely already.

well fiddlesticks! I edited due to leaving out a word and now I gave the post to you the title.ARrrgh. Sorry about that.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-29-2014 04:42 PM

I think it looks like a much more complicated quilt without the sashing. I like that. Of course, the sashing would look great and would give you more size if that's a consideration.

mrs. fitz 01-29-2014 08:55 PM

Without. Striking quilt, good design.

MacThayer 01-29-2014 11:21 PM

I prefer it without the sashing. You've got a lovely pattern going there. Don't break it up with sashing. If you need the quilt to be bigger, just add borders. IMHO.

mmeblue 01-30-2014 04:00 AM

I like it without the sashing as well.

zennia 01-30-2014 04:27 AM

Either way it's a beautiful quilt.

Barb_MO 01-30-2014 04:38 AM

I like it best without sashing.

Nanny's dollface 01-30-2014 05:51 AM

I prefer no sashing . Have you considered adding the off white as an outer border?

QuiltnNan 01-30-2014 07:41 AM

i like it without the sashing

michelleoc 01-30-2014 08:00 AM

I'd do without the sashing. It looks beautiful and just flows together nicely.

IAmCatOwned 01-30-2014 08:18 AM

I prefer no sashing. Your squares already make a lovely sashing around the deer blocks. If you need it wider, I would use several borders.

sewingsuz 02-01-2014 06:43 PM

Thanks everyone for helping me out. I will not be doing sashing. I had to stop this project and order more Fabric. I am making 10 more blocks so size will fit my king bed. I have 4 x 4 block and it will be 5x5 and then some graduated boarders and I think corner blocks. I will send a picture when it is all finished which may be a couple months maybe. Thanks for the encouragement.

Charming 02-01-2014 06:50 PM

I really like it without the sashing. The squares make a design together without the sashing. Good luck. Love your colors.

barny 02-01-2014 06:55 PM

Your quilt has a feel of needing to stay together like you have it. No sashing. IMHO. I love it.

cookie5 02-07-2014 04:23 PM

My first thought was , no sashing, it stands on its own the way it is. Very nice, my son would love this quilt.

I think it would look nice with a dark sashing of about 1 1/2" and a border of the leaves and a dark fabric.

cathyvv 02-11-2014 09:32 PM

I like the sashing. It gives my eyes a rest between blocks. The quilt will be wonderful and striking when it's done.
I am a big fan of quilts made with 2 - 4 fabrics, so naturally want to see this beauty when it is finished!

DOTTYMO 02-11-2014 11:02 PM

I would like a narrower sashing.

Zinda 02-12-2014 03:08 AM

I think if you added sashings, you'd start to lose the focus fabric. Just a thought.

I agree with Dina. Although I think with the sashing it gives a little calmness between the busyness of the blocks. I like your pattern. Easy but you can make an very attractive quilt.

quiltin-nannie 02-13-2014 06:00 AM

I like it much better without the sashing.
