This is a throw that I am making as a gift. I am looking for design ideas for the border. I didn't FMQ the body of the quilt so I am wanting to avoid having to FMQ the outer border.

I have considered:

just plain diagonal lines but am not sure about the spacing.
repeated framing or echoing of the inner border (that border doesn't show up in the pics well) I wonder if this will make the quilt pop or just take away for the existing look that I find quite pleasing??
diamonds that would fill the entire outer border similar to one of the pics below, but with more diamonds

Any way I found these pics buy maybe someone has a completely different idea they would be kind enough to share.

I decided on a pattern and my husband did the math to make sure it would fit evenly on the horizontal and vertical borders. Not sure exactly what he did but he used the word hypotenuse. He suggested I use my cricut to cut a template. I haven't scrapbooked in over a year so it took me over 15 minutes to find my deep cut blade but I finally found it. I used chipboard and made the template.

Using ceramic pencil and painters tape I got the border ready for marking. By that time it was getting late, but I did lay out the first set before calling it quits for the night.

I think the design I chose for the border will compliment the stars well. Tomorrow I will quilt the borders and begin the binding process. It must be completed by lunch on Friday. Good think I like a tight deadline. lol

Here's pics of the chipboard template and the first marked set of on point squares.

I think that is going to look great - very creative using the chipboard and making a pattern. Mine is gathering dust in the top of the closet.

That quilting in the border looks great. Perfect, in fact? Also great to have someone to do the math for you.
