Hi guys, I am looking for an easy quilt design for my sister. She likes simple, refined things. She is a minimal person and I don't want to overload her with alot of pattern. Any suggestions? The fabrics I have are an understated yellow pattern, with blue flowers and light green leaves on cream background, and I have cream solid.

Dianna, how about a disappearing 9 patch? It's a simple to do unique looking design. Here's a good tutorial to make it. You could use your floral for the outside corners, the leaves between them, and the solid for the center sq that will make the little patches when it's cut apart. Good luck.

chines coin comes to mind it understated and elagant

I'd go modern look, square in a square, maybe Stacked coins, google modern quilts they are usually simple and easy to put together.

Warm Wishes!!! You can use 4 or 5 fabrics. Great if you have a nice focus fabric or two that you want to use. Goes together really really fast too!

Pieces of Eight is an easy pattern that consists of cut squares, 8 1/2", that are sewn together from co-ordinated
fabrics. When I made it, my daughter (30 yrs. old) who likes "clean lines" claimed it the first time she saw it. Good luck! |
Thanks so much for this suggestion...:)

Thanks this looks really easy.......

Thanks for the suggestions....Looking now and trying to make a decision.. I really appreciate it......

Have you considered a simple nine patch? The colors you mentioned would be perfect for this pattern and the Cream fabric could be used for the backing... Please show quilt when finished... Happy stitching!

I had too many ideas and nothing worked for me. All muddled inside lol. I am looking at the 9 patch now. Thanks so much.

I recently did a quilt with rectangles and just arranged them as I saw fit. I didn't know the person really well and wasn't sure of her tastes so I wanted to do something more modern.
|
The book "City Quilts" by Cherri House has 12 quilt patterns that would please a person who likes simple and refined.
|
I am definitely going to do this one - how easy!
|
I like the simple 9 patch idea, but you could also do pinwheels, have them all go the same direction and it would be a neat looking quilt, sashing or no sashing

It works with just two fabrics too. Either variation sounds wonderful ! |

How about a center square of pieced blocks then a wide, wide border equal to the width of the center square of the solid cream followed by a colored border. The wider solid border creates a minimalist, elegant look that translates into up-to-date for many younger people who don't like the fussy, busy look of an over-all quilt pattern. It also makes the quilt easier to make since it uses fewer blocks. Now your emphasis is not so much on the choice of block pattern but the arrangement of fabric within the pattern.

Where is the Warm Wishes pattern? Pieces of Eight & Square in a Square?
Thanks. twilight |
