I've never done or seen a D9P and have some questions. When you choose your fabric, how many colors can you use? What size should the nine blocks be? It sounds like fun.
|
I don't even know what a D9P is. Maybe you could tell me......
|
a D(P is a nine patch that you cut in half lengthwise then widthwise, then you can turn them anyway you wish and sew them back together, that the best description I could give,Im sure someone else can decribe it better
|
I've made them with every block a different color and I've made them with just three colors -- it depends on the look you are going for. Here's a link to a simple three color one that I find appealing:

Thank you so much. At least now I know which way I'm headed. I would love to do one with turquoise and brown. Marion

Look at the nine patches after they are cut apart...some are left at full size and some smaller. Decide which of your fabrics you want in the larger and smaller squares :D:D:D
3 1/2" squares will yield 8" finished blocks... so it depends on what size finished blocks you are looking for  |
Okay. How 'bout if I start with 24" squares. That'll get me done in a hurry

It's late in the afternoon and I have been cleaning up my garden trying to get ready to plant by Feb 15th. (if it ever gets warm), and I'm now in my silly stage.

Great idea! Here is a link that made the pattern much easier for me to understand.

I used charm squares and put a dark in the center with lights and mediums around. Mediums in corners. This gives alot of definition to your blocks.
24 inch squares, a one block wonder. |
Thanks loads for all your help. I've got the whole picture. Now if I can just get the new roof finished, the kitchen sink ungloged and the cat to the vet with an injured leg, I can then start my quilt. And I'm supposed to be retired and relaxing.

I'll be teaching this pattern to our first quilt class at our church in February. I recommend you either use 3 or 6 colors or go scrappy.
