Could you fuse it to a stiffer interfacing?
I know the ones I made for my boys when they were small I just quilted...and they loved them! My oldest son once asked if he could play with his cars on a double wedding ring I had for a wallhanging in our bedroom...just 9 rings 3x3....and he had more fun driving his cars around the rings. Every once in a while I would let him do that...as a reward if he had been especially good. |
That is such a cute story! And thanks for the suggestion.

I had considered oil cloth and/or fleece, but I thought on a carpeted surface they might be too slippery. That's what lead me to consider canvas. Wow, this site is amazing with all the help.

I have made a couple of the cheater panels that are race track and construction zone. They were approx. 36 x 44. by keeping them small they don't actually sit on them to play and they stay flat just quilted. I did use this polyester batting from walmart that is about 3.77 per yard and feels alittle stiffer felt. you might use oil cloth as the backing. It is super sturdy and would add to the stiffness without making it hard. Just a thought.

How about putting in a layer of felt along with the batting? Felt is reasonably price and will make it firmer and lay flat. You can even put in two layers of felt along with the batting.

I made a quilt with my fabric years ago. now the grandson is playing with it. not over think it just make it and let the kids have fun.
