I Need Help Identifying this block please!!
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
I sent this block out to a friend, and didn't write down where I got it, or its name. I like it and want to repeat it, and don't know what it is called - does anyone here know? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Nancy |

Maybe a single windmill?? Thanks, Neesie!!
Nancy |
it looks easy enough though, just half square triangles. go for it. cute block.
|
I just finished a short class in which we made that block. The class was about the Farmer's Wife Sampler, and the teacher called the block "Box." Here's another site that uses that name too - http://cookiescreek.com/category/qui...ampler/page/3/

Thank you all so much!!

The block you have shown, is not in the FWS.
Here are two that are in FWS and are very similar. Whirlwindl http://www.quiltingboard.com/blocks-...e-t140522.html Windmill http://www.quiltingboard.com/blocks-...e-t143976.html |

Hate to disagree, but it is block #9 (Box) in Farmer's Wife. Here's another picture - http://www.flickr.com/photos/27827349@N07/6801134696/
For those who may be interested, here's the FWS thread for that block .... and you can get a look at it in many different fabric choices! http://www.quiltingboard.com/blocks-...os-t62459.html |
pretty block whatever its name
|
I agree with dunster on this one. I couldn't identify the block til I say that picture. Simple to recreate tho. I like it too.
|
I dunno, but it's pretty!
|
EQ7 calls it the Eccentric Star
|
No help here but it sure look simple enough and so pretty! Good Luck!:)
|
On Jinny Beyer's Studio Newsletter, she shows this pattern and calls it "Box Quilt Pattern."
|
Do you really need a pattern? It is just 4 HST with white and one fabric and 4 HST with white and a second fabric and a square of white. I really like it and I might use 3.5 squares to make it.

Nancy http://www.ideas-for-quilting.com/boxquiltblock.html http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpa...-pattern_3.htm http://www.jeannesquilting.com/free/eccentric.html Your block is very pretty and you should be able to redo it with these directions. |
Many Many years ago it was called: Dutch Windmill and went with a pattern with the Little Dutch Girl and Boy. I do not know what they are calling it today.
|
Pictures/Drawings are so helpful in instances like this.
|
Don't know, but I LIKE it!
|
Thank you, everyone!!! I am a relatively new quilter, so while I can see how it is made, I have no idea of the size of the pieces that would be needed to get a 12 inch block!! I really appreciate all of the help!

You've already got the picture for a guide. YOU DON'T NEED A PATTERN, and if anyone asks you can always say that your forgot it's name. |

Nancy If that;s the finished size ... after sewn in to the quilt ... then 12 divided by 3 equals 4. Each square would be 4"x4" plus seam allowances .... meaning 4-1/2"x4-1/2" Use the photo as your guide as to what fabrics you would use in each position. |
OK, I get it now!!! Thank you, smart quilters, for your help!!!

Nancy Also, create the block as it will look once sewn into place .... then add on the 1/4" seam allowances once you know what the pieces are going to be. This example it's simpler to do, being that each of the nine are the same sized. Another time, you might have different sizes. So as a hint for the future .... graph paper can be your friend. Sketch it out and then go from there. Now I bet you too, can figure out how to do this if you wanted a 6" or 9" block! And honestly, I think it'd be much prettier done with smaller blocks ... looks more daintier and finer IMHO! |
I finally looked up this block in my "1001 Patchwork Designs" book by maggie Malone. It shows the block with only one print color under the name of "FORMAL GARDEN I". I'm sure it's listed with other names, elsewhere.

At any rate-----------whichever way you put it together, it's an easy, yet quite attractive pattern. Good Luck! |
