I just finished this wall quilt and I didnt have good instructions, or I didnt use common sense. I cut out the cat and tail in two pieces and glued to quilt tucking tail under the cats body. When I went to sew to quilt I noticed that where the two pieces met was very noticeable. Well my question is should I zig zag over it or not. thanks for any advice.

I must be on a very fast horse, because I can't tell!

I couldn't tell either. It's a cute wall hanging. You would have had to have a very large piece of fabric to cut the cat in one piece. I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldnt go over it... I think it would draw more attention to it.

I agree. I can't see it in the picture.

just a crazy thought....what about cutting the rest of the tail out of one of the other fabrics and applique into the border. Folks would think you so creative.

Cute quilt!

If nothing else is zigged, I wouldn't zag the tail. However, if the background shows through, you can use a fabric marker to darken the spot.

You can do a little thread painting on the cat's body and tail and disguise it like that. Here's a shot of some I did.

If it were me and it was driving me nuts I would do some stitching on the cat - stitch where the tail and body meet then go and stitch the lines of the cat legs up on to the body - to accentuate the different parts of the body - kind of like making a coloring page outline so instead of a silhouette you would have the details stitched in. It will look more like you meant to do it and tie it all together. Stitch the outlines in of the eyes and whiskers too possibly and the ears... but do it all in black not in a noticeable color. The added stitching will make the tail piece seam not as noticeable.

Oh it's too easy!! Just lower your feed dogs, and kind of move the fabric up and down a quarter inch or so. It was tooo, tooo easy!

nikki128 07-09-2011 05:34 AM

What pattern is this? i would love to do one in memory of my cat who just passed over the rainbow bridge. I don't see the seam ...

Phannie1 07-09-2011 05:42 AM

I would think if you used the quilt as a wallhanging, no need to do more but if I was going to use and wash it alot, it may need re-enforcing. but I think is looks great as is.

jessiesmom 07-09-2011 05:49 AM

Nikki, this is a pattern from a quilt magazine from years ago.
I finally decided to try it.

That is a cute wall hanging! My favorite color combination, black and white.
