I need help please !
I am working on a Jenny Doan tute that is coins with pizzazz. I didn't pay enough attention and cut the strips that surround the block the same size as the 4 in the middle of the block, 2 1/2 inches.
I went back because, when I put it on my design wall it was all off, lines didn't meet, etc. I watched it again and Jenny said to cut the side strips 2 inches instead of the 2 1/2 inches. I have it all sewn to the sides but for the life of me I can't figure out how much to cut off the side strips to bring it back to the 2" instead of 2 1/2" Do I measure the strips from the back where they are already sewn and count out what to get the 2" and won't that make it 1 1/2" on each side? I said I was confused and need someone to hold my hand through this and tell me, when I put a ruler on the edge of the sewn end, how far out to I measure to cut the strip off so I'll eventually end up with a real square? I'm confusing myself as I'm writing this so if you're confused, you should see me :-( |
If you cut the center blocks right, just trim 1/2" off the sashing around the entire block to get it back to the correct size. I would measure that from the raw edge, not the seam.
That would make the half-finished sashing size 1.75". |
I agree, Bree123! You want the strips 1/2" narrower than you cut them, so you cut off 1/2" from each edge.

Thank you ladies to much. I don't know why my mind wouldn't figure this out but math was never my strong point.

I am presently finishing my "coins with pizzazz". As I reviewed the tutorial many times, one of her boys, the cameraman said the length was 5 1/2" not 5 inches for the inner four strips.. Is that part of your problem?

The members on this board are amazing. Always have an answer.

Usually when they at MSQC makes a mistake they flash it on the video so you can change it. Maybe if they did that you missed it or something. Or maybe they missed it too & didn't flash it. I'm sure they would love to know about it.
