I need help with a quilting design...can I do this?

I made this fun little Cat in the Hat quilt top for my soon to be born new granddaughter. I would like to quilt an outline of the hat in the center of some of the squares. I want to use my embroidery machine to make the hats, but can't find a pattern for the hat that isn't satin-stitched. I drew one on the design feature of my new Elissimo Gold, but it will only let me do a satin stitch instead of a quilting stitch as far as I can figure out. I'm not confident in my free motion skills. Does anyone have a great suggestion for me?

I have cut designs out of freezer paper, iron on to quilt top, and FM around it. You can use it quite a few times. Just peels off and iron on again. Good luck!

Can you adjust the stitch width and stitch length of the satin stitch? If you can, I would lengthen the stitch and set the width to 0 (to make a straight stitch).

Don't have an answer about that, but your quilt looks adorable! I'm a big fan of the Dr. Seuss books. Our kids loved them!

If you're really nervous about FMQ, you might be able to do this with a walking foot. It depends on the design. A walking foot can handle gentle curves easily, and to turn corners all you have to do is stop with the needle down, lift the presser foot, and turn the quilt.
