I need help
 

I found out my cousin has been diagnosed with cancer and will be starting chemo next week. I'd like to make him a throw. I am going on the long arm next Tuesday at quilting class, so I have to act fast. I picked the least busy, male colored pieces of fabric I had. Can I make something out of what I have? Do I need to put another color in there? This is what I have on hand. Obviously I won't use all of it, but I need some advice. I'm brave enough to tackle this in this short of time, but too inexperienced to pick out fabric.

I was thinking disappearing 9 patch. How many different pieces do I need for that?

I can't help you on a pattern, but I think you could use all of the fabrics, except the yellow one. They seem to go together to me.

i would set the daisy fabric aside & the (rose) fabrics use in small doses- so they don't over=power/dominate the quilt. disappearing 9-patches would work nicely- as for how many fabrics...at least 3...but as many as you want- you could always choose 6-9 fabrics, use 3 different ones in each block & mix them up some

No more help than what has already been suggested but wanted to say I'm sorry for his diagnosis and good luck with the treatments.

I've been making throws for several ill folks from our church. The easiest and fastest for me is a rag quilt with stripes (WOF) in alternating patterns. I just finished a pillow tick stripe and stars stripe. Last week I did a BRIGHT pink print stripe with a pink and white plaid stripe. Thanks to the Fiscars rag nippers, the projects went quickly. Earlier this year I made two others. Easy to kick out and often I can find 2-3 yards of a couple fabrics in my stash.

these look like they would go together rather quickly and are full of color! They are all strip pieced.

The quickest one for me is to cut strips, sew them into sets of three or four and do a scrappy rail fence.

I hope the treatment goes well for your cousin and no matter what you do, your quilt will bring comfort and warmth and the love you obviously have for your cousin will be encased in all the layers and blocks of this special quilt. I agree with the other suggestions to leave out the yellow daisy fabric and might consider adding in a warm brown - maybe even a homespun fabric.

You could do a bento box with what you have. Speedy recovery for your cousin. I'm sure he will love whatever pattern you decide on.

maryquilts has a quicky strippie that I really like. You could make them all diff, or find a focus fabric to go with your stash. A wide border would make it bigger fast. Here is the link:

Rail fence came to my mind too. They go together fast and are fun to arrange.
Guess I'm the only one that doesn't mind the sunflower fabric. Thought it looked good with the green on green fabric.

I would add in chocolate brown to tie all the other colors together. Dark brown always seems masculine to me, and it would go with all the other colors you have laid out.

You might also want a warm brown flannel for the backing.

I think all but the bright pink print. I like the sunflowers. I would do a log cabin or a rail fence...quick and easy. Great when scrappy too. If you have a dark brown, I'd add that to make a bit more manly.

D9P with the sunflower as the center[that way gets cut smaller] use withe blues --red one as small borders+binding --good wishes for you+yours

Since it needs to be fast, I think I would do a extra large sawtooth star. Depending on how your cousin feels about florals and yellow, I would thing the center of the star might be that lovely sunflower with red or the pale blue starpoints and the great ferns for the background. ( I mean one sawtooth star of about 40" finished size. adding whatever you need in something like Chinese Coins for the border.)

Of course one never knows in any individual case, but 2 friends credit my quilts with their recovery.... one from stage 4!!!! brain cancer. Nothing says caring quite like a quilt.
