This is 40 x 58 right now, I guess i had planned on adding the black dot on the sides too :)
I am not liking the idea anymore... I feel it needs a border though,
What would you do to finish it? I want to donate for a fund raiser...
Thanks for your help;)

If you have some of the other black with larger dots, that would be cute. Or maybe a solid black with red binding.

toverly 09-27-2014 02:28 PM

I would go for a solid black also as a border and if you still have the scraps, a scrappy binding out of the fabrics.

sewmini 09-27-2014 02:54 PM

I sure like your cats....look fun!

I Gree with a black border--you do need it on the sides. I would do a red binding in the same red as outlining the cats. Cute!!!

Bree123 09-27-2014 04:13 PM

I second cjsews' suggestion about seeing if you can get more of the print with the organic white dots on black. Otherwise, a solid black would be good.

Cari-in-Oly 09-27-2014 04:29 PM

I would just add the same that's on top and bottom to the sides and use red binding.

The border needs to be something that is not in the other 4 blocks then bind in the red as others have suggested. The border should be a solid color that ties the colors in other 4 blocks together. Get out your stash and play around with colors as the border. Very original!

I LOVE this quilt. I'd try for a double border, both solids with the inside being a soft lighter grey to harmonize with the white or light color I see and then the next being black. Just a delightful treatment.

I love your quilt! I also love your avatar...Looks a lot like our 'Charlie'!

earthwalker 09-27-2014 08:47 PM

I too love this quilt....I'd go for two borders - maybe solid black followed by a wider border with maybe a lighter tone, then bind in black or a multicolour binding using black and other scraps from the main quilt. Please post when you're done....It's a beauty now, but finished it will be stunning.

I like the black dots and think it would be great as an inner border on the sides too; however if you're not happy with it, then remove the top and bottom borders and start over with other fabrics to frame this darling little quilt. Someone is going to love getting this... ♥

I'd remove the black dot fabric on each end. Add a wider strip of solid black, then go with the dots. You could bind it in red or black. It's a fun quilt. Hope you enjoy finishing it up.

The upper right quadrant seems too light as compared to the other three quadrants to me.

Maybe use a darker color around the cat in the upper right corner to give it some "weight"? Yes, I do know that would involve some unsewing - but I think it would give the piece a better balance.

Love the cats.

Love your quilt cat blocks. They are real cute. Just play around with all the above suggestions and see what you think works best. Black is always great when nothing else works.

WMUTeach 09-29-2014 04:36 AM

Love those cats. They capture "catitude".

twinkie 09-29-2014 04:44 AM

I like the idea of a black or black tone on tone border also

Madan49 09-29-2014 05:34 AM

Remove the dotted border strips first. Then I'd go with a narrow black, then a wider soft cream... make it look like it was matted for mounting in a frame. Maybe even use a wood grain print for the binding! Treat it like the art it is. Lovely quilt. *grin*

I agree black with dots very nice quilt

redneckwoman 09-29-2014 06:20 AM

I think your black with a red binding would look really good

redneckwoman 09-29-2014 06:21 AM

Could you please tell where you got your cat pattern at

Narda H. 09-29-2014 06:33 AM

Love this cute quilt! It would be a little work but if you could increase the 'boxes' with the same flow of design, keeping each one still separate, that would fun. You could use one of the other boxes colors to balance the weight. Ie. Use same middle border but one of the other colors.

GrannieAnnie 09-29-2014 06:40 AM

I'd remove the navy blue dots and do a border in a small print on a black background.

rhilkey 09-29-2014 07:17 AM

Narrow white, red, then black binding?

MargeD 09-29-2014 10:04 AM

I love your quilt, it's adorable. I think you need a border, however, not the pindot fabric. I would use a narrow red border or red flange, and then a solid black or a black fabric with some variation but the fabric reads as a solid. I know what I mean, but I'm not sure how to describe it. I guess it would be a type of blender black fabric, that reads as a solid black. Hope this helps.

wildyard 09-29-2014 12:28 PM

I, too, love your quilt! I am good with the dots but would want them on all 4 sides, then I'd add a red border and bind with the same red or with a black. The larger dot would also work well instead.
I am in the minority in not minding the lightness of the upper block. I think they all work together in the overall design and that the border will bring it all together.

charsuewilson 09-29-2014 12:43 PM

love the cats. it does need a border. Some thing in a solid on the sides that goes with the blocks. I'd do solid black. Then at least 2 more borders. One should be red. One could be the black and white dots.
