Or have a handyman file it to a rounded edge and then buff it up so it doesn't cut her anymore. That is a terrible design.

how about that foam stuff they sell to insulate water pipes it comes in different sizes

Someone no this site made a "pan handle" hot pad. It could be a tube with an end on it that slides down over the pipe.

How about cutting a slice in a tennis ball and putting that on there?

How about the swimming "noodles". They can be sliced long ways and made to fit around things. We use them on the corners of our camper slides. Keeps us from hitting our heads when walking by.

I wouldn't trust "just" fabric to protect her from this metal pipe. I agree with the tennis ball fix.
My son's school has tennis balls on ALL the chairs in the classrooms. Not only is it a LOT quieter, the floors don't get as marked up.
Just use an exacto knife, or utility scissors to cut an "X" about an inch across and slip it on. If you then want to cover it with a drawstring closed circle of fabric for esthetics , go ahead.

I'm seeing a lot of good ideas here. Hope one of them will be your solution.

I think the tennis ball suggestion is an excellent idea!

You got a ton of great ideas there! I do have one question. Why is it having to be removed? Do the rails not fold down out of the way? If you are renting the bed through Medicare or Medicaid you might want to call the vendor.

That bracket is about 9 inches from the foot of the bed and she cannot get in and out of the bed without being directly over it.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions...now my mind is runnung around my stash to decide what to use.
