I need a kick in the butt....

My daughter asked for a pinwheel quilt, we bought the fabric, and I started making pinwheels. We need 64 for a king sized quilt. Every time she hits JoAnn fabric she adds another color. I'm seeing pinwheels in my sleep and can't get excited about this quilt anymore.....help.

wolph33 01-27-2013 04:23 AM

lol-just get it done so she can no longer add colors.

rush88888 01-27-2013 04:34 AM

"I need a kick in the butt...." consider it done! now, finish the quilt so that there are no more changes! and keep your daughter's butt out of jo ann's! LOL (also, learn to say "no")

I love your dilema, teach her to sew.

JenniePenny 01-27-2013 04:47 AM

Tell her it's fine to keep buying colors. Also mention that the new colors will just go in your stash! You're too far along to want to cut any more.

I just finished a quilt top that was 9 in. pin wheel blocks surrounded by smaller pin wheels. Don't want to make another pin wheel for along time! Good luck with yours.

hahaha have to say I agree with everyone. Put new in stash, teach Her to sew so she can make blocks, learn how to say no and GET ER DONE!

Years ago I started a pinwheel quilt...and I did get very tired of working on it. Just a few weeks ago I pulled it back out and am working on it again...and loving it, so hopefully I will finish it this time.

Just let your daughter know you have enough fabric, no more shopping. And next time, let her make her own quilt!

alleyoop1 01-27-2013 06:02 AM

Thank her for adding to your stash but that you are to a point where you can't add anymore colors - unless SHE wants to make prairie points for the edge!

Are you chain piecing them or doing them one at a time. I find I can whip up blocks chain piecing faster and it helps move monotonous tasks along. I also find bribing myself with something I want to do after I finish so many blocks helps.

I can imagine how you feel about all of the pinwheels. On the lighter side, I sewed from start to nearly finished, a pinwheel quilt last night. I used the directions from Missouri Quilts, it was fast. Now this is the part, I only had to do 5 for this little doll quilt, love it. I am going to finish the binding and voila it is done. I love doll quilts!!! What a great way to try a tecnique and get rid of some of my ever growing stash of fabric.

Take her to Joann's and buy her a sewing machine!! LOL

I feel your pain. I started a pinwheel quilt and I have since decided it will be pinwheels alternated with rail fence blocks. It might get done that way.

WMUTeach 01-29-2013 05:18 AM

I am with you on those pinwheels. I started one last year this time using my scraps. Well 124 pinwheels later, I am still at it. I just put it a way and will return to it get excited about it again. I know your circumstance is different, but time does help. In the end, you quilt will be gorgeous.

gabeway 01-29-2013 07:30 AM

Put a stop to the new colors or start involving her in the piecing.

Caswews 01-29-2013 10:06 AM

Oh I agree with Alleyoop1; there is a point where one has to say-Enough !LOL

twinsmom 01-29-2013 10:15 AM

i just love everyone's answers. are we all moms?

Virginiagirl 01-29-2013 11:37 AM

Just finished piecing a pinwheel twin size quilt. Got a little tired of taking out seams because I sewed the wrong side. Turned out pretty good in the end. Could be better of course, always see mistakes.

I don't think you need a kick... you need a pat and a HUG!!!!! Hang in there!! and consider yourself HUGGED!!!

Doesn't work! I taught my daughter to sew and bought her a sewing machine. She still has me do all her sewing because, "You know what you are doing." Gotta love'em! lol

I like the way you think, JenniePenny! lol

JulieR 01-29-2013 02:01 PM

Sew any new colors into the backing.

bigredharley 02-02-2013 02:39 AM

Thanks for all the support. She came over last weekend, and we laid it out over the floor to get all these colors sorted. Turns out the "new" ones she loved on the shelf she didn't love later  but the good news is the pinwheels are done. Wow are they tough! On to sashing......

katydidkg 02-02-2013 04:43 AM

Sew faster so no more colors can pop in ! lol
