I haven't made a baby quilt before so I need suggestions! I just found out our pastor and his wife are getting a baby possibly as soon as Monday. Its a 4mo little boy. I'll be going to Mary Jo's tomorrow. You think something quick like a 4 or 9 patch would be okay? What size are baby quilts normally?

They must be so excited. I make my baby quilts 45X60 but I know many people make them smaller.

I would go with a square 60, just so that it is square and can be used any way they want. A very simple one is just fine for most people. DO you know if it is a girl or boy? You can do a check and solid checker board pattern. That will whip up really really fast. I would also make a ruffle on the edge if it is a girl with maybe a lace ruffle also.
I got one in a purple gingham with a ruffle and a lace ruffle and I absolutely loved it. My DD uses it still and I made one similar for my son. hope this helps. |
Pick up a cheater panel and add borders. That's the quickest way!

The pattern used for Downy quilts works up very quickly and is cute too :D:D:D
4 Patches and solid focal blocks  |
I love to use a panel. It works up so fast.

A panel for sure and there are a lot of sweet baby ones! It can be very quick to sew up.
