I need a new Iron - what do you use?
 

A year ago I finally broke down and bought a Rowenta. I thought I would never have to buy another iron and again and here I am looking for one. My Rowenta isn't any better than the Panasonic I've had for years and just last night it started squirting hot water through the handle when I set it in the upright position. So everyone, what would you recommend I buy?

I don't put water in my irons. just too many leaks, and spills over the yrs. I think I have read on QB other quilters say this also. use a damp pressing cloth, if I need moisture. 8 yrs ago I bought a new iron. I bought the cheapest iron that had an automatic shut off --from joanne's. still works like a charm.

I have several, a dry iron is a good one to have for some projects but I found a nice $30 one is a Black and Decker F1028. Check around to get the best price.

Don't know the model numbers, but the last two irons I bought were both Black & Decker and they are great - I highly recommend them! :thumbup:

my iron I have had forever is a no name brand, that I got for about $5 at the local dollar store...It has auto matic shut off, and has been working for years now...For that price I will not feel bad if it dies, and I have to replace it

I used to buy expensive irons until I realised how often I was buying a new one. My mum and gran had one iron their whole married life. Gran the ones towarm up on a heat and mum one without steam.
I have certainly made up for this. I have 2 irons one the steam on a long hose from JML for my clothes and a cheap one with a longest lead from any shop. At present I have a cordless one which is working very well.
I would like to buy one withou steam but they don't appear to exist. If I need water I have a spray purchased for about £1 from gardening area.

Every steam iron I've ever had spits dirty water in a short time. Based on a lot of recommendations, I just bought a dry iron from Home Depot and it's great! They also sell it at Vermont Country Store for the same price. Shipping to my local H.D. was free, so I got it there instead.

I picked up a lightweight Shark at Lowe's when my last iron died. I love it and it was under $30.00.

I have that same iron and have been real happy with it. No steam and no auto-shut off.

Does anyone know what kind of iron Jenny uses on Missouri Quilt Co. tutes that are on youtube? I only noticed this morning as she was pressing blocks...that she set the iron down on it's face and it immediately popped up about an inch. To keep from burning the pad..but how does it do that, and what brand is it? I love that feature!
