I need pattern suggestions for a little girl...

It's time to start a quilt for my granddaughter! I always make the grandkids quilts for their 7th birthday and need ideas for my special angel girl. She loves yellow, purple & pink (in that order) and butterflies. I have always called her my angel so that could be fun too. When my other granddaughter turned 7 I made her a warm wishes quilt with butterflies & hearts app. on the center blocks ( pink, lime green & white). I hate to use the same pattern but it sure worked out nice. I think I want yellow & purple as the main colors but can not find that inspiration fabric that makes it all start. Any ideas or thoughts would be wonderful.

Fat Cat Patterns has an angel quilt that you could adapt for your DGD. She has some very cute quilts and they don't look too hard to do. Good luck finding the perfect pattern for your angel.

I am tend to go very traditional. How about some type of Sunbonnet Sue as an angel. Since you are comfortable with applique, it should be easy for you to adapt any of dozens of patterns to fit the angel theme.

You could do several Sue blocks showing different activities she enjoys and one with angel wings setting near a Sue that is quilting to symbolize yourself. That would be the "Grandma and her angel block".

How about a 3-D pinwheel quilt. You can find directions on this site or google it and you will find tutorials.

I like pinwheels for a little girl. Saw this one today but couldn't figure out how the pattern is done.

Scroll down the page a bit. It's called "Magic Wheels"

What about princesses and horses? Always great for girls!

There was a quilt shown here that had a white background with different sized and colored butterflies in flight. The butterflies were flying from the bottom left to the top right. If I remember correctly, there was a discussion as to whether the butterflies should have been added before or after the "whole cloth" was quilted. I searched butterfly quilt, but did not see it in the first 5 pages. It did not seem to have been more than a month or so ago. I was thinking about making one for my GD. You might like it too. Does anyone else remember that quilt?

I have a book of Sunbonnet Sue applique patterns. There is one in this book that has a small angel -- I used white cotton eyelet (pre-gathered ) for the angel's wings! Of course, I did a crib sized quilt, and had to increase the pattern size and doubled the number of blocks I put in the quilt! It really turned out good -- I hand-quilted it, too -- my first ever quilt! I made it for my niece's daughter and it was rather special because I used fabrics from three generations, my mother, my grandmother and me! My niece will always treasure that quilt! And, because I'm still a rank amateur, I was surprised it turned out as well as it did!

Good quilting on this one! The grandchildren (and nieces, nephews, etc.) are precious!

How about appliqued angels with dresses made of butterfly print fabric?

Found the butterfly quilt I was talking about, in case you are interested. (So much for relying on my memory!)
