I agree, they look great, yes a curly tail and perhaps an eye with long lashes for the female pigs.
|
Love the piggy quilt - I collect pigs and think this one is going to be one you'll love when you're finished with it. Also, I love the flying piggy applique design & plan to use it myself!

BTW it would help my poor old eyes with a curly tail.HeHeHE
Regardless, it does need a tail! |

they look like pigs to me. If you want to add a curly tail I would just straight stitch a curl. so cute.
|
Your pigs are cute as can be. I wouldn't bother with the creases, but would add a curly tail and an eye as others have suggested.
If you turn the applique the way Yarn or Fabric suggests, then dampening the edges or lightly spraying with water helps them turn more evenly and neatly. (Press after to dry and smooth) Fusible applique works too of course. Good luck! |
I think the pigs are adorable. I've wanted to make a pig quilt for a long time as well. I owned a pot bellied pig at one time and she was special to me up until her passing so I am going to make a quilt in her honor. Anyway, the batiks are a great idea. They really bring out the shape. If you don't want to satin stitch around them you could always use a hand stitched blanket stitch as used in applique. OR, even easier, use permanent fabric markers to detail the piglets.
In any case, keep up the good work. It will turn out terrific. |

I like your pigs, too!! They look just like little piggies to me! I often use invisible thread to hold down applique pieces and then don't have to change thread. My brother would like your quilt-he's a hog farmer with his two sons.

Since you like pigs, I found this one recently -a cute flying pig applique pattern: http://www.fatcatpatterns.com/PDFs/2008_WhenPigsFly.pdf |
Dee,
Look in your local Joannes and I think you can find a yarn that will duplicate what a curly tail looks like. Let us know if this works. gmajudy |
I too think they are absolutely adoreable. IF you don't want to embroider the detail on the pigs - there is paint in a metal tube called Aunt Mary's paint. This can be used in lieu of embroider floss. I know you can get this paint in JoAnns, saw some there Saturday. You could use that to make your lines and tail instead of embroidering. Just be sure to use a hot iron and set the paint with a topper cloth that you don't care about. I think my first washing I'd also use vinegar in the water to help as well. Good luck with this precious cute - you are doing a great job.
|
When in doubt, leave it out (the excess detail stitching)....except for the tails.... I can see some 3-D curly-Q tails hand-embroidered in some way... maybe use thicker threads or a thin yarn???
ADORABLE! Good luck! |

Absolutely adorable  I see pigs, sew cute. I would add a tail, eyes(closed, half circle with lashes) & maybe a solid pink applique nose or a ( button or a yo-yo?)Please keep us updated. :D
|
hun I think they are cute, you need to look at it again the pigs are cute.
|
too too cute. lovem. they are def. pigs.
(I thought you were talking about PIGS - LOL) only need curlique tails & maybe some snout detail. |
They do look like pigs without all the extra work but having said that using some thread painting will make them stand out even more. I love the pigs you are doing.
|
Could you do a yarn tail, maybe tied in a bowknot?

I second that idea. I think they are really very pig looking now, and with the curly tail they will be great. |
I love the little pigs. Embroidering a curly tail should be pretty easy.
|
Oh my goodness. Those are the cutest piggys I've ever seen.
I have a pattern for making a little stuffed pig and made one for our grand-daughter when she was a little one. She just loved pigs. Babys are cute but don't let them grow up. Nice job on the quilt. I'd use some stiff thread and make it curl for the tails. good luck. Flo in NNY |
I think a little sqiggly tail, and mebe an eye, I would trace the pig on paper and see if a mouth would define it any or just leave it. And if you really want to get fancy, mebe a small dark line to define the hooves. Yes, you can easily tell that it is a pig. With pigs you don't have to add much. I really like the pattern that you have.
|
Chain stitch for the tail and just a french knot for the eye, no other embellishment needed! They are cute, keep going.
|
Very good little piggies. Would a black bead for the eye and a pink, two hole button on the snout help?

DeeBooper,
I think they look like Babe, from the movie! Adorable. I do think they look better with the detail, and a pigma pen might be enough. I love pigs also. They are, indeed, very smart! Ann |
This is so cute. I agree you need to add a tail.
|
You have all the advice you needed and more! Your pigs are so cute. Do some of the easier suggestions and you will be fine. I love what you have done so far, and a little embroidered curly tail is all I would add. Good luck with your piggies. :-)
|
awe those are cute !!!! put a blanket or zig zag stitch around them and a curly tail would be cute ,if you get really creative add a barn , fence , tree or something in the background!!
but i think they are just as cute as can be !! |
Are you using the correct foot for satin stitch? Add a curly tail and your pigs are done. I think they are great.
|
those are adorable just put a tail on and enjoy them. you're doing a great job. i collect pigs too and want to make when pigs fly over at fatcats. my kids got me a plate set of when pigs fly so i thought that would go together well.

Piggies are darling, embroider a curly tail and use pigma pen for any other detail, I didn't see any mistakes either.
|
the piggies are great. lots of good suggestions for tails.
you might try a darker shade of the pig color for the body details. use stabilizer under the pigs & loosen the top tension for a good satin stitch. sharp needle. look in your machine manual for advice on good satin stitching. I think a very small blanket-stitch looks very effective also. You are going to have so much fun doing these little piggies ! |
Heavy thread with a double knot and a pig tail hanging. Maybe even yarn
