My daughter sent me these 4 fat quarter prints (2 of each) and wants me to make her a wall hanging. I have looked at these for days now and can't come up with any pattern to make. I would have never put zebra print with these but that is what she picked. If any one has any suggestions I would love it. I have white and black fabric I can add to them. Anything will help at this point since my mind has gone blank.

Pinwheel and alternate the colors ?

The zebra print would make a great binding (especially cut on the bias) and would also look good as a border.
I'd probably make a primarily black and white quilt with red accents. There have been some fabulous ones posted in threads here. If you use the board's search option and search on "black white red" I think you will find some ideas. |
A couple ideas: disappearing 4 patch, or use the solid red for background then make flowers with red print and black print using zebra for steams of flowers and zebra for a thin border.
Oh, those pesky daughters of ours! First thing I'd do is ask her what she had in mind when she picked out the fabrics, had she seen a pattern that she wanted used for the wall hanging?
Throw the ball back in her court, and let her decide what to do with the fabric. |
I love her color choices but I don't have a clue as to what pattern you should use. I am sure someone will come up with an awesome design suggestion for you.
I think I would talk to her some more and try to find out what she had in mind. Sorry I wasn't a lot of help.
Yes I think I would have to inquire as to what she had in mine. Does she want a patchwork or a detailed design.
i would be asking ---how big--what kind of hanging she has in mind---me i would go with an asian theme so usually off ballance not equal size pieces using solid black as frames
These all sound like great ideas, I like the Asian theme ideas...
Since it's kinda Asian fabric, how about the little folded kimonos?
I think that if you did the circle pattern that uses 4 quarters, with two colors in each quarter you could arrange them into a nice wall hanging.
If you could afford to supplement her choices, add a few more coordinating FQ's and make a bargello. They never fail to amaze the non-quilter.

I really like this idea  |
I think I will try the red background with flowers out of the print fabric and stems with the zebra then bind it with the zebra. I do need practice on applique. Will post when done. Wish me luck.....
