If I can't see it without my nose an inch away, why does it matter?? I am stuck in this anal mode worrying about my seams being one thread off and I know it's stupid yet I keep doing it.

And I ripped out two areas to line up the seams better. One was pretty bad though-from before I was using the glue.

Have you tried measuring the quarter inch on your machine with a ruler,, and using painters blue tape, mark a 'scant' quarter inch all the way across the front of the machine? I do this even on my New machine, or NONE of my seams are straight. I have challenges to sewing straight, and this is my remedy. I can even keep the seams straight while talking! I hope this helps!

No one will know except you...unless you've missed it by a mile (which I doubt)! Quilting hides a multitude of sins, believe me :) Just enjoy the process. The finished project will be great :)

Of course the QP can't visit you. They moved in with me. Indefinitely. But for Xmas they promised to hide my over worn Panic Button. Hope it's lost for good like most of my absolutely -necessary -stuff seems to be.

As far as using glue, I use a glue stick (made for paper). It works well and you don't have to wait for it to dry. Saw this on sewing with nancy!

We are our own worst quilting police. But you know, I've learned to let myself off with a warning sometimes. If it's REAL bad then, yes, rip it and re-do it. But if its off by the tiniest bit then leave it. Not going to make a difference when you're done and show it to people who compliment your work.

Love the 3 times rule - I've used it for a while now - if still not perfect (or almost) I use my newest phrase "Close Enough!".

Ok, for a newbie to quilting, do you spray the whole piece of fabric before you even start cutting? or where and when do you spray?

Mu husband always tells me "if you didn't point it out to people nobody would even notice including you" so relax nothing in this world is perfect.

It's your project, stress over it if you must, just don't stress over the stressing! :-P

I'm a Virgo and we can be really, really intensly exacting. The Perfectionist. But I learned to not demand exactness in everything when I volunteered at an elementary school and had to make seasonal posters for the classrooms. It dawned on me pretty fast that the wonderful children enjoyed the entire picture, never noticing that the circle might not be perfectly round at one area. If something really is obviously off, I redo it. Mostly I remind myself that I quilt the Amish way, No one is perfect, only the Lord is. Works.

That's interesting. I'm a Virgo too. Hmmm

I was told it does not need to be perfect. The amoish say it's a form of art and art is not perfect.

Pat P 11-03-2010 03:41 PM

hey Gale I had a a cousin who got under her quilt in a frame to count the hand stitches to make sure they were the same number as on top of the quilt! She has made 2 quilts over her lifetime and I have done 18 (obviously I do not handquilt any longer!) Don't sweat the small stuff, this is suppose to be fun!!!!!!!

Momsmurf 11-03-2010 03:58 PM

Gale, if it's going to be entered into a juried show, then I would make sure everything was absolutely more than perfect. But seeing what that would involve, I don't plan on making a quilt to be entered in anything that involves the quilt police. :-P :-P :-P

If I could overcome the Virgo thing, there's hope for you!
