Some people call it "tossed" or "chinese" coins and the black reall shows off the colors of the other strips.

Hi, here is a link to quilterscache 6 in and smaller blocks. The patterns are free. http://www.quilterscache.com/BlocksbySizeA.html
also a link to one I did with the Indian Hatchet block. With6 inch squares, you could use a 3 inch square in the corners. It is an easy block to make, and looks great in all colors. Good luck, and have fun with it!
