English paper piecing Grandmothers Flower Garden is definitely a take-along project. You can pre-cut you shapes ahead of time. I made a queen size quilt that way

I suggest a redwork quilt. I'm doing a redwork in blue. I guess that makes it a bluework. It's a winter scene. Blue seems like it's cold to me. Anyway, there are a lot of pretty ones out there and you could work on that too.

Do hand embroidery or cut out circles in advance and make a bottle cap coaster. You make a yoyo and put a bottle cap in it. It takes 7 hand stitched together for the coaaster.
The circle should be 3" in diameter.
Ill put a picture of them on my webshots below.

You'd have to do some prep work, but how about working on a biscuit (or puff) quilt. Do a search on the board for Patty's Biscuit Quilts for directions.

I usually take a cheaters panel or a wholecloth mini to handquilt when I travel. It helps to pass the time especially when I go on a cruise as I am not one to lay around the pool. There are some great panels out there that would make nice gifts for special occasions.

You could also get the yoyo maker template in whatever size you like, or all of them.
You can cut strips into squares for the size you will need. You don't have to have circles.
They are easy and fun. JoAnn carries them. You can practically do them blindfolded :-D
