I need your Opinions: Technique - Top Pressed Piecing
 

Hi everyone

I am looking for the best way of doing a double wedding ring quilt. When I say best, I mean a moderately quick method.

I spotted this book:

Foundation-Pieced Double Wedding Ring Quilts by Sumiko Minei

Text says: Quilters who don't like the back-and-forth flipping that comes with foundation piecing will love Sumiko Minei's 'Top Pressed Piecing' technique, which keeps the pattern on the right side of the fabric.

Now I love FPiecing and am quite happy flipping back etc but I have no idea what the above means??


All suggestions welcome to the best way to a DWR quilt (I like the rings to be pieced rather than just one fabric).

I've only made one and I used Sharlene Jorgenson's method....you can google her (lives in Starbuck Minnesota) and see the video. I purchased those acrylic cutting templates she shows on the video...I made mine with the solid arc (instead of the individual pieces). I am thinking of making another one....I'm just a bit afraid of the curves.

You might want to look at EB QIAD method. I believe she sews strips and then cuts the arc from the strips.

sounds like the freezer paper type of foundation piecing where you don't sew through the paper. But I am with you, regular foundation piecing works for me. I am working on Judy Niemeyer's Wedding Star for a bedrunner right now and the arcs have gone pretty fast....even with flipping LOL

I saw one where the arc was appliqued to a background, then appliqued the center curves on. Sorry, don't remember name of technique or person doing it.
