I have a few shirts that belonged to my late father. I want to make a couple of quilts around 1 shirt for each of my two brothers and myself.
I want the fabric from the shirt to be left in large blocks or shapes and basicly the focal point of the quilt. Any suggestions?

So far my only thought is to make a 12 inch block and find some complimeteray fabrick for smaller blocks around it and maybe a star sashing to give it some flare. I am thinking a large throw and maybe smaller version for a nap pillow.

If I were to use warm and natural how far apart Could the quilt be

I made a quilts for my niece and nephew out of their dad's t-shirts . I used 2" squares, with every second one being white. I also cut the logos off the shirts and put these in a random pattern of larger squares (4, 6 and 8 inches.)

It looked great, and the pattern didn't detract from the "meaning" of the quilt.

I have to go back and re-read the instructions for loading a photo, I can't remember how I did it last time!

Warm and Natural has quilting up to 10 inches apart. That's why I love it so! I hand quilt and don't fill in all the space...it is too painful for me to go for days quilting.

I think the ideas that have already been given to you, are wonderful choices for you to choose from. My Father has just passed away & I have shared this very idea with my Mom. She is definately going to make a quilt from his colorful western shirts. Good Luck with your quilt & please share it with us, as you get it going.

I only want to use one shirt per quilt. My dad was partial to plaids and I want something I can get done quickly because we will all be together in March and I want to give them to them in person instead of mailing them. One brother lives in CA. I am in GA.

Last night I woke up and had the quilt on my mind and this is what I was thinking. One large block with multiple borders.

The plaid has a black or dark blue line through the plaid so I did a small 1/2 inch borders and will bind with that.

Here is the pattern and will measure 54X54.

I could not figure out how to add to the message so I added it as my avitar.

I have seen a quilt made out of baby clothes. They used the whole dress by appliquing it to a background to look like it was hanging on a clothesline. I wish I could remember the website where I saw the quilt. You could do the same thing with one of your Dad's shirts.......that way you wouldn't have to cut it up.
