I plan quilts when I'm having trouble sleeping

When I'm having trouble going to sleep I think about fabric colors and quilt patterns. Just thinking of all the things I can do with fabric seems to calm my mind and it really helps me fall asleep. I do the same thing with yarn, crochet, and knitting. Sometimes I dream about sewing and when I wake up I try to make notes on what I was making in my dream. One night I dreamed I made a circular pin cushion. So the next day I made a circular pin cushion.

:DWhen I am having trouble falling asleep, I go over FMQ designs in my head.

I think of quilting when I am trying to go to sleep and have started keeping paper and pencil beside my bed. Writing in the dark isn't always readable in the morning but it does trigger the memory.

I'm usually quilting before bed ( have have little ones) so I often dream of my project or the ones to come. If its something good i write a note in my phone to remind me.

I have trouble sleeping if I've been playing with fabric and patterns before bed! Too many combinations go swirling through my head, that I don't sleep restfully. I sleep fine if I've been piecing and quilting, but pulling out new project ideas before sleep, not a good idea for me!

Lately, when I have trouble falling asleep, I imagine Bing Crosby singing "Count Your Blessings" from "White Christmas."

I've also heard Rosemary Clooney sing it, so sometimes I imagine that. Or, for variety, I think of the Pied Pipers singing "Dream (When You're Feeling Blue)."

I do the same thing when I can't sleep - usually calms me - but sometimes puts my mind in overdrive and I cannot stop thinking about quilt patterns and quilting designs. Sometimes I get really great ideas - when I wake up sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

I am the opposite I find thinking about the colors and patterns too stimulating , and my mind starts to race with the infinite potential. I also can't select fabric from my stash for a project too close to bed time or again my mind races.

Same here.I do not sleep well most of the time and create many lovely quilts that are beyond my skill levels as I lay in bed waiting to sleep.

Some nights I "make" about 5 quilts in my head. :D

I visualize hand quilting in my mind when I can't sleep. I guess it is kinda like counting sheep. I just just the needle going down and up, down and up.... next thing I know I'm counting zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Same here. Seems to work for me.

my ideas for quilts come just as I am falling asleep. So I keep pen and paper on my table next to the bed, ready when inspiration strikes! Sometimes I don't want to fully wake and make my notes. I've learned my lesson on that because I never remember the idea in the morning!

If issues with work or family are tumbling through my head when I'm trying to sleep, I often pick up one of my quilting books or an old quilting magazine and think about quilting instead of the other issues. If I'm going to obsess in my mind, I'd rather it be about fabric and patterns! If I wake up in the middle of the night, rather than get caught up in worry, I get on the QB or look at other quilting links.

One time my dad told me when he would have trouble falling to sleep he would do math problems in his head - he would do them too while walking on the treadmill. Thought it odd, but turned out my eldest daughter would do the same - also a math wizard. I would plan quilts - think of pretty patterns and fabrics, much happier than thinking about work.

Me too. I have about 4000 quilts designed in my QuiltPro. Last night, when I could not sleep, I revised an older pattern of mine. I think it might be just right for a Grandson for Christmas.

I sewed in my sleep most of the night last night!!

Going to sleep no problem I do dream about quilting problems. The person about maths, I am constantly counting ie the machine stitching sewing thread in. Rotary cuts made. No idea why. I thought at one time everyone did It. I must try maths problems that may work as a new way.

I wish I could accomplish as much quilting during daylight hours as I do at night when I lay wide awake in my bed. I've even designed a quilt while getting an MRI. It helped me stay still for the 1+ hour.
