 I am holding 6.5 yards of a light kacki 100 % cotton. For some unknown reason, maybe because I am new at this, a mistake was made when it was purchased. I am hoping someone will tell me what to do with all this yardage. Because it was cut, the store will not take it back. Woe is me!!!

You have started your stash  Save it until a quilt tells you it is perfect for it

You can cut it up and use smaller pieces in other quilts

You can find other fabric to pair with it and use part of it for the front and the rest for the back :D:D:D

where did you buy it? most stores will take it back if you have not cut into it. or washed it

Light kacki will be great for many things. I am not sure I would continue to shop at a store that won't take 6.5 yards of fabric back. In my area they would take it back without question. They are a little more picky about any return under 1 yard. I hope this doesn't discourage you from quilting.

Is it just the color or is it the weight? If it's the color, use it. If it's the weight, hmmmmm, cut it up and use it in a top of another quilt. Perhaps a utility quilt, mixed with lightweight denim or maybe some camo fabric. Mixed with those it could make a great "guy" quilt. If it's going on an heirloom quilt then no, if it's going on a quilt for a customer then no, if it's for yourself then if you want it on the back, put it on the back.

That is a great color to use in pieced backing. If you need a darker color for the quilt, dye the fabric.

I thought of dying it, but am concerned it will fade off on other materials.

I would wait and find some other way to ues it. You will find a quilt to make with it.
