I put a Janome 6700P on layaway today!

I posted a couple of weeks back that I wanted a machine that could do the serpentine stitch, and in the end, decided that I wanted more than just that. The Janome dealer called me yesterday to let me know that they finally had one in that I could try, so we went over there today and I pulled the trigger! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I was really pleased to hear that they have layaway - I didn't think anyone did that any more. I think I'm really going to be happy with the machine and all of it's bells and whistles. I'm looking forward to learning free motion quilting, and I want to start making labels for my quilts.

Does anyone here have this machine? How do you like it?

on my 2nd Janome . Had 8000, now 9700.
97 .love both. You won't be sorry for choosing Janome.

Congrats on your new machine. I can imagine your excitement and getting ready to bring it home.

Stitchnripper 07-24-2020 03:24 PM

Congrats on your new machine! Your first post got me thinking to see if I had this stitch on any of my
machines and I have it in my Brother XR 9550PRW,
and after that my friend sent me a picture of a quilt where she sewed the binding to the front of the quilt with the serpentine stitch. So your post has led to another option for me.

Congratulations! I love my Janome MC6600P.

Quiltah Mama 07-24-2020 04:38 PM

Congratulations. You won't be sorry. I know all, or at least most of us are brand specific on here and have our favorites,. I happen to be a Janome girl. I am on my second one, and neither have let me down. Enjoy your first meet and greet with your new machine when you get it home 😎

Congrats! If my 7700 ever dies that's the machine I would get to replace it!

I've been surprised by all the people that have said that they use that stitch all the time. Guess I wasn't so crazy after all, to want to buy a machine that has that stitch on it! Honestly though, I'm really excited about all the other features and I told my husband that I'm going to make a real effort to learn how to use them.

I didn't know how I would like the knee lever, but after trying it today, I really like it! All of my other machines are vintage mechanical machines that are mostly all metal. That's one of the things I like about Janomes - they have those metal frames, and this one has a mostly all metal case too. I have a vintage New Home and a Janome made Kenmore and they're both great machines.

I do feel really good about the machine and that it's the right one for me - I just wish I could bring it home tomorrow! It's probably going to be a couple months until I get it paid for and it can come home with me.

I have an older Janome MC 6600 and *lurve* it. (And with this stupid pandemic still going on - it gets used every day)

QuiltnNan 07-25-2020 04:27 AM

congrats on your new machine

I too am a Janome girl - through and through. I own several as do my sisters and several friends. Great machines, good precision. Congratulations - lots to love there!!

My mom had a Janome/New Home MyExcel 23l, which Cheryl now has. I can remember when Mom bought it, although I don't remember how much she paid for it. I do remember her mentioning that it was more than she ever paid for a machine in her life, but it's lasted this long (at least 35 years) and still works like ti did when Mom bought it.

Cheryl has the MC 6650, which she absolutely loves. It replaced a MC 6500 that, after 17 years, started having computer issues. She also has a MyLock serger that she hasn't used in a while since she doesn't do much garment work any longer. She's played with the idea of using it for her quilting but hasn't really done much more than think about it.

Good luck with your new machine.

Congratulations on your new machine. I am so happy for you. I have a Janome MC6600 and love it. I bought it used and it has been working great for me for 11 years. You made a good choice in choosing a Janome. You will be so happy with it.

SusieQOH 07-25-2020 06:26 PM

Sheryl, that's so exciting!! Happy for you!

blossom808 07-25-2020 11:11 PM

Congratulations, I just bought a used just like new bernina. I just love it. I’m still learning all the things it can do, very happy with it. When I asked here about sewing machines, the women gave me things to really think about. I got what I wanted.

Congratulations! I just bought one this afternoon.

Another Janome girl here. Mine is almost 25 years old and still going strong. Hope you get as much enjoyment with yours as the rest of us Janome girls do.

juliasb 10-27-2020 08:23 AM

How exciting! Lay away! I love doing things like that. There are no dealers near us our I would be looking real fast. The closest dealer for sewing machines is about 50 miles from here. You have to tell us more when you get this baby home.

SherylM 10-27-2020 12:59 PM

Well, I should hopefully have it within the next couple of weeks; I talked to the store owner a week ago and he told me that they have a shipment coming from New Jersey, and one of the machines has my name on it! (We need a "turning cartwheels" smiley! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png )
!
I said "hopefully" because he told me that because of the pandemic it's been difficult to get some orders ,and he said they're waiting for about 50 machines right now. His exact words were "It's a good thing your order's not coming from Texas." I didn't ask him why.

I'm so excited! I'm working on a really special quilt for my daughter - I dyed all the fabric myself - and I want to be able to make a label for it with my new machine. I feel a little bit like a kid at Christmas!

Congratulations! I have a 6700 and it is a really lovely machine. It was my introduction to the flatbed, semi-industrial machines and I am so glad I have made their acquaintance. I am sure you will use the serpentine stitch a lot. It is my go-to for snuggly, not-densely quilted treats.
A couple of thoughts:
Consider adding the AccuFeed HP foot. It is a narrower foot than the standard 9mm feet and it works with the HP stitch plate. I have this and it is fantastic for sewing on binding.
Add-on the little pedal that allows you to activate the thread cutter with your foot. They call it a “remote thread cutter switch”. Since you are already a fan of the knee lift, I think you would like being able to use your hand for other things than telling the machine to cut. I have a couple of Jukis who come with foot-pedal thread cutting standard and they have spoiled me for this feature. It really is a time saver.
I hope you enjoy creating on your new machine as much as I have.

Thank you for this recommendation. I just took a look at that and it's definitely something that I would use a lot, so I might just go ahead and order one before I get the machine.

I also have the Janome Memory Craft 6600. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.pngAwesome machine.

How do you use the knee lever

I took a look at your machine on ebay. I missed reading about the knee lever. I use a free hand bar to raise the needle up and down to reposition fabric. Is that what your knee bar does? Thanks and congrats!

sewingpup 10-29-2020 03:38 AM

I got really used to using the knee lever on my Bernina 630 to raise and lower the foot so I could keep both hands on the fabric .....I did trade my 630 in for the new 570 which also has a knee lever....but it also has a "hover" function that you can set....so I am using that....a "hover" causes the foot to just raise slightly when you stop stitching so again, you can just turn your work without having to raise the pressure foot with your hand. It is really helpful especially when you are doing an appliqué stitch around something. I used my knee lever all the time on my 630 got applique.

As Sewingpup said, it raises and lowers the presser foot.
