and bought "saftey pins" at the store. it was midnight and it's all they had. So is this going to leave markings in my quilt? I had to pin it and get it off the living room floor cuz the dogs were walking all over it and i knew the kids would too in the morning so I pined it even though I saw it was leaving marks in some spots. Will they come out in the wash? I tried to use the basting pins in the cream spots and the safety pins in the red and blue.... ahhh i'm so nervous now!

I use safety pins.

So do I and I've never had a problem with any marks left by them.
I bought some of those safety pins with the slight bend in the middle and those worked fine. Also used regular safety pins in a pinch and I have had no problems.
I have had pins leave marks it usually washes out.
I have used a combo of basting (curved) pins and regular safety pins never had a problem |
what kind of marks???
not quite sure what kind of marks you would get from pins??? are they dirty??? pin holes do disappear when the quilt is quilted, bound and washed. but if the pins are leaving some sort of...stain??? i would remove a guilty pin-and spot clean immediately to see if its coming out---and i would clean the pins...i would not leave in for any length of time any pin or any other (tool) that was soiling my quilt |
I almost always use safety pins and have not had a problem.
when I first got my safety pins after using a few I noticed the marks. Took them all and washed them then laid them on a towel to thoroughly dry. This took care of the marks.
I use safety pins.
I always use the #2 curved pins, some are from Walmart. I never had marks, can you explain what kind of marks
Safety pins are fine.
yes they have some sort of residue on them. some of them were leaving marks like a little grey dot where the pin went in. I started rubbing them with my fingers before I put them in. I hope the little marks where the other pins went in will come out. I had to get the quilt up off the floor last night i was pinning till 2:30 am LOL wow i'm tired today
Another reason why I have switched to spray basting 505.
Sounds like maybe they are dirty or have a coating of lubricant or oil to keep them shiny? Pin one in a scrap of fabric and try to remove the mark. If a little soap and water takes it out, then it will probably come out when you wash the quilt. In this heat and humidity I would be watching to make sure they don't leave rust spots. Now rust spots are REALLY hard to remove!
I use regular safety pins all of the time. I do check for any rust spots before using them, but haven't found any yet :D:D:D
They're the same thing except that the "quilting" pins are curved. If you would like, PM me your address and I'll send you some "quilting" pins, because I absolutely hate them, I'll be glad to get rid of them.
