I am making a quilt for #2 son (51) and it takes 182 2" strips of one color and 288 of another. Yeah, he picked it out. So, I slip and took off the end of my nail. My husband suggested I stop for awhile and go to Harbor Freight with him. While there I bought 2 sizes of suction handles. Came home a started cutting again after about 40 cuts I slipped again sliced into my thumb but not badly. Husband is now laughing because tho I bought the handles I had not put them on. So, he installed on both rulers I am using. Lo, 200 cuts, not so tired and not once did my blade slip onto the ruler. I am a believer. Total cost $7.10

Ouch! Hopefully your poor thumb will remain cut-free!

I've got the suction cups from Harbor Freight also, but don't have them on my rulers yet. Mine slipped yesterday, but luckily I didn't cut myself. I went straight to my sewing room and put them on after reading this post. Thanks for saving me from getting cut, but I'm SORRY you had to learn the hard way(it could have been me.)!!!

While at HF I bought a fishing glove...They were bright orange. They are for fish fileting....you can stab yourself with them on...but you cannot cut yourself with them on.
They come in a pair, although you one need one...They were very, very inexpensive....I took one each to my quilting classes and if a person is right handed she wears it on her left hand...and lefties on the right...but you will positively love it...
And because it has that rubbery sticky clear stuff on it,(it is a knit glove), it holds your ruler very, very well.
Please go get that glove!!!
