You were not selfish, the clerk was rude and should not have done what she did. Like, do you think the other lady would have given you 1st choice and just taken what was left had the situstion been reversed? I seriously doubt it. If you were a selfish person, you would have taken it all even if you didn't need it and then smiled all the way home!

Selfish not. I think you did the right thing. I'm sorry in my opinion if you have the bolt of fabric in hand, unless you state otherwise the first cut should be yours. Like someone else mentioned, there maybe a specific section you want of the fabric because of color or design. I've done it to, not allowed someone to have the bolt till mine was cut, good job for standing up for yourself. Sometimes the bolt may look like there is plenty but that doesn't always mean there is. Oh and I think the cleark should be the one to make that suggestion, not assume your willing to risk not having enought after the other persons cut.

It's in your hands first so you should get first cut. It's only right. She would say the same thing if it was in her hands first.
