About three years ago I bought an ergonomic seam ripper than I love. Because it's made differently than other rippers, I was able to sharpen the blade this am on my knife steel, and it worked great. I am so excited that I don't have to buy a new seam ripper because mine was dull.

What a terrific idea, never thought of sharpening my seam ripper.

Interesting. Can you tell which seam ripper you bought?
I've heard they can also be sharpened a bit with 0000 sand paper and rubbing it in one direction on one side then the other

I have one that's really dull. I'll have to try this. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! What a relief! I thought I was going to read a cautionary tale of an injury. Great idea and I'm glad it's working well again.

I get attached to my seam rippers too. I hate having to buy new ones. Thanks for this great idea!

Actually it's a curved blade seam ripper. I found this information out as I was searching for the kind I own

And I have loved it since the day I bought it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was glad to find out that I can sharpen my favorite and the finest blade seam ripper I have. The newer ones I bought are so thick that they don't get under the small stiiches (like FMQ) that I need to remove for wandering where they weren't supposed to.

thanks for the info, always looking for a good seam ripper!

I've wondered about using the blade kind of seam ripper but don't really understand...do you hold the seam open and run the blade between the fabrics? Afraid I'd slice the fabric!

I usually unpick every few stitches and then pull out the thread on the other side.

Do you think emery sandpaper would sharpen the "old" kind?

thanks for the information
