I want to make a block with HST and Square blocks. I am cutting my sq blocks 8 1/2 to finish 8". Do I cut the HST the same size or 8 7/8". I am new so I know you great quilters can lead me in the right direction. Thank you!!

yes always add the 7/8in to whatever you want the finished blk

Or add a full inch and cut down to size... gives you a little wiggle room

it is to hard to measure 7/8 ths..especially when cutting alot of strips, to make the HST's.
just go up an inch.

When you square it to be 8", that means it is only 7 1/2" finished and wouldn't work if your alternate square is 8" finished.

Yes. That is correct. 1/2 goes to 7/8 for HST's
