I Spy Quilt

This is probably a really dumb question coming from a seasoned quilter, but what is an I Spy quilt? Can someone out there explain it to me or have pictures I can see?

I have the same question, I looked it up, usualy it is made of 4 inch fussie cut squares, can be made using other patterns, but that is about all I found, is each square a diffrent color, or design, or a combination of both? I'm sure we will get some good information here.

Just google I spy quilt and then click on images, and you will see many different types of I spy's. I made one with hexagon blocks cut from fabric printed with simple items that a young child could recognize. You tell the child that you spy a star, and (s)he finds the star. Then (s)he could have a turn "spying" an item and you find it. Any pattern that has blocks of any shape could be used. Lots of fun with baby.

Eye Spy quilts can be a quilt made from 4, 5 or whatever size block you want. Each block is made up of a novelty fabric. Ex. bugs, flowers, etc. Then you can play a game with the baby find the block with the butterfly,. It is fun. If you do a search under pictures I posted one awhile ago. Look for Eye Spy.

Check out my avatar. It's a portion of an I Spy quilt. Google "I Spy squares" and you'll find some already cut for a reasonable price.

This is the one I want to make. This link will give you a pattern and the details. http://happyquiltingmelissa.blogspot...-festival.html
You really need a stash of kid oriented fabrics. I am collecting 6 in squares.

The first time I heard the term "I Spy" quilt was on an episode of "Simply Quilts" with Alex Anderson. The women from Possibilities, Lynda Milligan and Nancy Smith, were showing how to make their "I Spy Napping Quilt." It was made with hexagons that had triangles on the sides to make like a star design. It was kind of like a charm quilt, where every hex. was different from every other one. But they had suggestions of other ways to make one, such as making it a matching game by having pairs of fabric pictures for a kid to find. It is in their book, "P.S. I Love You, Two!" which is the second of their books of quilts for babies and children.

Great descriptions above, would like to add that pixtures of mom, dad, brother, gramma, in some of the blocks ads to the game for bavy. I fot my blocks by joining a swap here on the QB. Working on it now, cant wait for JJ to play with it.
