I think I boogered
 

I think I boogered. I just started quilting my sammich and I think I messed up. Nothing major but it can potentially involve ripping out four rows of quilting. Eek!!

Say your doings sid but the line don't end up going the whole way across a quilt top. Like the border. How do you secure your stitches from starting and stopping rows? Is there a way I can secure the rows I already did and then do the last 12 correctly?

Oh I do have a woo hoo moment. For those that read my set in machine thread. Df finally relented and is gonna make my machine set in!!!! I'm so excited lol

I think if your line is the way you wanted it just short and not completely across the top, I would simply start about 1/2" on top of the old line and continue on. If you turned too soon and have a line that is in the wrong place, I would carefully undo it with a seam ripper and overlap the new thread where the old one is right.

My lines are the way I want them. I'm worried about securing the ends because it's basically set up main center piece surrounded by two borders. The center is being sid of all the 2.5 in squares. Then I'm sid around each border.

I'm worried once it's washed that the center quilting won't hold up because it won't be secured by binding holding it in place.

You could leave long thread tails. Then knot the thread tails and bury them by hand.

I start my rows with 5-7 tiny stitches (stitch length .4 or so) then reset the stitch length to 3 (or 3.5 depending on the thickness of the sandwich). When I come to the end, I go back to the teeny tiny stitches again and snip off my thread. Works like a charm.

It is a drag to keep resetting the stitch and I learned a new way on the memory setting for my machine: I select the zigzag stitch, set the width to 0 and the length to .4, then set that to memory. Now I can switch between the regular straight stitch at 3mm and the preset zigzag when it is time to start and stop a line. What a time saver.

I stitch small stitches back and forth beginning and ending. It holds real well. Don't know about what you have now. I usually do A large stipple or meandering. I never quilt any less than 3-4", no matter what the batting package says.

Thanks MadQuilter. I also use the teeny, tiny stitches to start and stop SID. Never thought of setting up a special stitch on my machine (which I can do). Tfch8184 - it has been a long time since I heard the term boogered - brings back memories of our family.
