Be sure to learn what the file extension on your emb machine is...my babylock i .pes
There are hundreds of free designs to be had on the web but you need to know what kind your machine takes.
take as much time as you need to have him teach you simple file transfer from PC to sewing machine...its worth thousands of dollars in designs down the road. You will be able to search out and find your own free designs.
One thing to know..some of the free designs are made by novice digitizers so before commiting to fabric its nice sometimes to test stitch a design out....you'll learn : ) Congrats!

Rhat machine takes .jef files. It also uses a flash drive, so it's very, very easy to transfer files. (I have one.)

Congradulations on your new machines! I know you will love them.

In case you haven't been told, a lot of the embroidery websites have free emboridery patterns for you to download and try. One of my favorite sites is http://www.emblibrary.com Not only do they have free designs, but great sales and fantastic customer service. Have fun..

I think maybe making stuff for his daughter and her family would make him, and you, and of course the receiving family feel really good.

My husband always says..."whatever makes you happy, makes me happy"! Yeah, he's a sweety.

Your husband sounds like a very thoughtful man! Enjoy your new machines, and don't feel guilty about such a lovely gift. Maybe he would be interested in a nice snuggly couch quilt. And maybe he'd donate some old flannel or plaid shirts to make it from a la Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.com? And a nice embroidered mugrug and mug might be nice with special coffee and a snack. I hope the family matters can be successfully resolved without too much difficulty.

Congrats on your 2 machines. Great hubby. I guess you got what you wanted. My husband didn't even notice that I got a new HV Topaz last Nov. He's kind of clueless with stuff like that. He didn't care though because I needed a new machine. But, he certainly didn't like it when my son & I drove home my Benz last July. Didn't talk to me for almost 2 weeks. He got over it, though. LOL
