If the photo studio is your husbands, why can't you have your own sewing studio?

I have a small house so we took out the kitchen table to make room for my 10 foot Tin Lizzie. :thumbup:

this is one reason that i have a Hinterberg Stretch frame. when it's not being used, it is very easy for one person to take down and store. i know many quilters who make lots of tops, then set up their frame, sometimes in the living room even, to quilt all of their tops for one to a few weeks.

Well I moved with the idea of getting a LA one day in mind, so I looked specifically for a house with space for one, but if you can't/don't want to move you could maybe put it in the guest room, or set up in the living room. When I was shopping around (took me 2 years to make up my mind) one person I talked to said she knows a few people who get wooden frames and stain them really nicely so they kinda look like a piece of furniture in the living room. I'm sure it'd make a nice conversation piece.

Had I not moved though I would've just taken over the spare bedroom. Good luck finding a space and have fun shopping!

You are right, the frame takes up a lot of room! I have mine in our FROG (family room over the garage) and not much else fits there.

What machine are you using with your Hinterberg frame? I have a Horizon 7700 and don't know what frame would work with it. Any ideas out there?

My problem too, I use a small bedroom for a sewing room, not sure a long arm would even fit in there and if it did, not room for my sewing machine too. I have to keep a room for the grandbabies. If I had room, I would have a machine. I will eventually add on or close in the garage, but I would have to have another garage to keep all hte garage crap in. I can't make it work, :( . One day I will!

Room for the rack is a huge consideration. You don't mention if you live in a temperate climate which would definitely impact if you could take over a garage. They do need to be in a climate controlled situation and also for your quilting comfort you need heat or AC in the designated space. Additionally if you have pets you need to keep it in an area they can't get to, especially cats who will consider it the best kitty hammock known to mankind when you have a quilt loaded. If you quilt for others you don't want to risk having pet hair all over everything not to mention the hazard of a pet eating thread, batting or a pin. So ideally you want it somewhere you can close off. I put mine in a back bedroom but the room was small so it limited me to a 10 foot rack. I would have loved a 12 but no room. As it is my LA takes up that entire room with only enough space left for storage of batting and threads.

I have a friend in the southwest who bought a wood storage shed for her quilting studio. If a LA fits in your guest room, you could put a futon, sofa bed or even a Murphy bed in the room & keep it as a guest room.

I understand your dilemma, mine was the same. I knew I wouldn't want to quilt in the garage and worried about the equipment being in the heat during summer. I still dream of one, but have settled for the HQ Sweet 16 sit-down model. It only takes up about 36" square and is a dream to quilt on. Plus it saved me a lot of money! If I have a special quilt I want longarmed, I just take it to my amazing quilter who has a Gammil.
