So my mom has been hinting that she needs new potholders and I want to make her a few for Christmas since I'm home all day with the baby and I have some down time when I can't sleep anymore but the baby is still snoozing... My problem is, I've only ever done a satin binding, so I am completely clueless on how to bind the potholder when I'm done :(.

I've seen a few pictures and tutorials on how to do it, but it doesn't make a lick of sense to me. Can anyone help me out and try to explain it to me? Binding for dummies? lol.

You can bind it just like you do a quilt except I would machine stitch it down or you can do it the birthing method where you sew it like a pillow with right sides together leaving a tiny opening that you then hand stitch closed.

Clear as mud? lol

Lol... that would be clear if I knew how to bind a quilt... lol. Like I said, satin is my friend, no folding involved...

I whipped these up because my potholders were bad. I just used the potholder batting, two pieces of fabric and turned them. They're kind of simple, but maybe you could do a neat block for the front and then quilt a bit?

I just posted a tutorial on my blog for a friend of mine who wants to dabble in quilting. ;)

http://sandandsunshine.blogspot.com/...ilt%20Tutorial That first one part 5 I explain all about how to make your own binding, and show it with photos. :) Maybe between shelly and I you'll have an easy time of it.

What an awesome tutorial! Couldn'tve explained it better. Beautiful quilt, too!

I have a great pot holder pattern I would love to send you. I am inept at entering things on the computer and this is the first time I have ever written on a website. If you know how I can get this pattern to you let me know. I can write it out, send you a copy on your snail mail..or scan and send it to your email. I may not know all the rules of this exchange. My best friend lives in Mesa..if you would rather I could send it to her and you could get it from her? I got some of that silver heat resistant pre quilted fabric and zipped up 4 mitt type potholders in nothing flat. They were soo cute. Cathy
