Here's another pattern that uses the same block in different ways to mimic a sampler: http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2011/...le-monkey.html
Again, love the blocks...the border... not so much. |
I think that's an interesting idea for using up scraps...do the same block, but in different fabric. I'm gonna put that on my list of things to do.

When my sister and I lived in two different states, we had a block of the month one year. I made sure that the deep green was in each block. We had a blast.

Boston that is my idea of a sampler. It is beautiful with each block different.

I came across this sampler quilt by Noriko Kido, of Japan. (Second Place, Traditional Pieced.) http://www.quilts.org/winners.html Notice how she used the same block each and every time, but they all look completely different from one another. She did this by cleverly coordinating her colors and values so that a different, certain aspect of each block stood out.

Hi there, take a look at youtube with nancy ziemann I watched this segment a few days ago not sure of the complete name she had a guest doing scrappy quilts and it was fun and I like how the guest was doing her technique.

This quilt is called Patchwork of the Crosses (POTC in quilter's shorthand) and you can see some SERIOUS eye candy here:

Thanks so much everyone. One of these days I am going to get that thing quilted. It's kind of tough, because the cats all want to sit in my lap. :)
