I want to try some thing hard so i,m looking for a Hollywood pattern

Hi every one I,m ready to start my 5th quilt and want to try something that looks harder .
I,d like to try a Hollywood block and try doing it with paper piecing.
Some thing totally new to me .
My problem is I can find a free pattern.
Any one know where there is one on the web ?

Thanks
Tom

Can you show us a picture of a hollywood block? I've never heard of that one.

ManiacQuilter2 05-22-2015 04:29 AM

I tried Google and didn't find any block by that name.

I can't find a quilt of that name either. Some patterns are only available from the designer and are not free.

Thanks
What about a New York pattern it looks really involved.

Good for you Tom for building your skills, it is very rewarding.

We need a photo of the Hollywood block, from that we can most likely figure out what the traditional name is and from there find a free pattern. There isn't much new under the sun, just new designers renaming existing patterns and marketing them as something new.

New York Beauty is a gorgeous pattern, and you would be learning curves in assembling, great project.

Think i,ll go with the New York pattern.
Any where i can down load want to do it with paper .
As from what i hear the points are way better and crisper.
Thanks
Tom

It will help your searches if you use the correct name of the block which is New York Beauty.

Google it. Most New York Beauty (NYB) are paper pieced and there are some free ones. You will never find it if you type in New York Pattern. Use New York Beauty quilt pattern.

See if this is something you can use: http://quilterscornerclub.tripod.com..._patterns.html

I have been paper piecing for about 2 weeks. I have watched many Youtube videos on it and the best advice I have for you is when paper piecing it seems backwards. As you add you next piece don't look back to where you have been, look forward. After that the light bulb went off and I have made 2 lovely star blocks so far. Good Luck Marie

Thanks,Basketman for that website. Looks interesting.
Skills will be sharpened learning PP and sewing on a curve. Good plan for learning new skills.
Mmac71 is right that it seems backwards to PP. If you are dyslexic, it probably makes a whole lot of sense...but if not, then PP takes some getting used to, but the results are so worth it.

Look for a method that uses freezer paper and a no tear method...some time ago I posted a web connection to a Utube video that makes paper piecing a whole lot easier.

I didn't get warning notices, but couldn't get anything from the pattern links or by clicking on the pics. It seems as if the front page is all there is.

Basketman 05-24-2015 05:17 AM

Hummmmmmm logged on this morning with zero issues, but you are right about the opening page being all you get...sorry about that! It used to load and give all the patterns for free? I am not a big Pinterest person, but if you cut and paste: https://www.pinterest.com/search/pin...20patterns...I am betting there is something free for the looking.

Judy Niemeyer has some nice patterns. They are not difficult as long as you are ORGANIZED. The patterns tell you how to organize. www.quiltworx.com

Thanks Basketman for posting the site for the NYB blocks. They are great.
