I'm completely lost here. Exactly how is this better than a good shot of steam and holding the iron down until the bulk is flattened??? Maybe it's something you have to try to appreciate - I've never heard of the hammer "thingy"

You give a shot of steam with the iron to the bulky area and then on a padded board, give it a quick tap with the silcone hammer. works really well to flatten the bulk. Be careful not to drag the iron when you give it a quick press, so you don't distort the material.

I have an old white rubber mallet that was starting to crumble a bit that I covered with Saran Wrap, works fine for whacking seams.

It is a fantastic idea. Do not see why it wouldn't work well. Are we haveing a revolution in the bump on the back problem.New ideas always welcome.
