I Won! Help!

I just won 7 yards of fabric from a local shop hop his last weekend! The fabric line is "Zola" by Ink and Arrow. It is a delightful selection of modern fabric that has large floral designs. I've been very traditional up until now, using small design reproductions, calicos and blenders. I need a vision on what I can do with this. Can you post pics of your own modern or large print projects, please? One idea could be a tote bag. Any other suggestions?

how about a collage?

Something where you frame each piece and set against a neutral, maybe? You've got way too much fabric there for a tote bag.

Take a look at Tula Pinks quilts to get some ideas. I really like her Serpentine quilt done in brights from traditional New York Beauty blocks. I think Missouri Star Quilt co. sell the pattern.

Is it 1 yd of 7 different prints?

This quilt used some large florals that we liked. You could use different fabrics for the 1/2 size and 1/4 size diamonds or just use all the same like we did. |

I've been learning to use and appreciate large scale prints for awhile now, when I realized that most of my fabric was what I call "tiny vine-y".
One easy option is to make large Half-Square Triangles, block sized with half light and half dark fabric. Then look at all the ways you can twist and turn blocks to make log cabin quilt designs, from the center star, streak of lightening, etc. This can be very effective with a pieced sashing, 2 narrow outside rows with one wider center and then full squares of the center where the rows connect. |
