Just remember if you start a quilt on this machine or any other machine, complete the quilt top start to finish on the same machine. Seam allowances slightly vary with each brand of 1/4" foot.

Thanks for the tip, I had heard that, and have been trying not to switch machines, although I was severely tempted the other day. Thanks for confirming I made the right choice by staying with the same machine. This board is so informative....helps save me from silly mistakes (at least from more of them than I already make  )

Is it home yet ??? LOL

oneygirl 06-14-2010 06:52 AM

You are one lucky gal! I have a Gem that I bought and one that my Mom left me, and I would not trade either of them for any other. I LOVE how light they are, and can really zip through my piecing with either of them. Great travel machines...Enjoy your new one!

quiltinggrandmaca 06-14-2010 06:58 AM

Congrats, that is wonderful. Your daughter will be ecstatic.

Most definitely!

Well, I just got her home. Her name is Cassandra - Cassie for short. She is a demo/shop model so gently used. She is a Janome Jem Silver - 25th Anniversary edition, so while probably not the latest model, she is beautiful to me. ;) Will get pics as soon as DH gets home.

I am so lucky!

JudyNH 06-14-2010 11:47 AM

Yikes - how special - best of luck with it - I'm sure your daughter will enjoy

Judy

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! I don't usually win stuff, so it's exciting when others do.

It's a great little machine; it's light and great to take to quilt classes or on vacation. Congrats.

roseOfsharon 06-14-2010 03:06 PM

Congrats to you nursie76!

nursie76 06-14-2010 03:42 PM

Thanks everyone. She is a sweet little machine, pics soon.

fraserblack 06-14-2010 03:52 PM

She should be able to take it back with her. As far as the electricity connection goes, all she needs to do is buy an adaptor when she gets back to New Zealand. All the travel stores and most Post Offices sell them. I purchased my Pfaff from England, got myself an English to Australian adaptor, and there were no problems at all. Perhaps she will have to pay for excess baggage because of the weight of the machine but I cannot see any problems with her taking it back with her. By the way, congratulations on your win.

Congratulations!!!!!
I'm happy for you!!!

butterflywing 06-14-2010 04:01 PM

you will love, love, love her.

lab fairy 06-14-2010 04:08 PM

I would definitely check into the transformer idea.

Judith 06-14-2010 04:08 PM

I think she will be O.K. with the electricity in NZ. You just need to get a converter and things usually work pretty well. Congratulations!

sharonp 06-14-2010 04:19 PM

You will love the Jem. I have one and just love it. But then again I have 4 Janome's

Well here she is...! She is an itty bitty thing, so petite! It is an American Sewing Guild 25th Anniv model. Now just need to get a carrying case so she will be protected where ever she goes!

Annz 06-14-2010 05:47 PM

Wow lucky lucky you and your daughter.

kjym 06-14-2010 06:10 PM

Congratulations.
I bought one of the Jem's and it is fantastic to take to class.
It was funny 3 of us bought them and we are the hit of sewing classes where we are just doing straight stitching. Everyone wants to know where we got them.
It sure beats lugging the Brother Innovis to class that weighs a ton.
Enjoy they are neat little machines, and only 12 pounds.

Congratulations!!! It looks like a great machine to take to class and (unlike the featherweight) it zigzags!

I bought a case for my jem from Ken's sewing &vac in Muscles Shouls , Alabama .
real nice people and have always gotten great service from them.
You can get to them on the web.
They also send out newsletters with specials.

I bought one of those for quilting guild days, light enough for me to deal with as I am disabled and can't carry anything really heavy. I love it and it suits my needs well.

Congratulations ... I'm so happy for you!

butterflywing 06-15-2010 02:21 PM

mine goes where i go. we're attached at the hip.

mine came with a tapestry zippered case with web strap handles and a sturdy bottom, but no pockets. you can probably make one using upholstery fabric and web strapping, but customized with pockets.

loads of congratulations!
