if I could use the wool batting and add some silk batting I bought in China. It is very thin and loosely put together. ( I just want to use it up) My SIL has one too and I asked her to sell it to me. Sooo could I put all this together as a batting for my quilt??? I imagine it would have to be very closely quilted. Would it be too warm? Both wool and silk say they are warm in winter and cool in summer. I don't want to use the silk alone, just too thin and loose..

If the quilt is to be washable, I don't think I'd mix them. The silk batting would be wonderful, in something like lap quilts.

Ive never used silk batting... just the mere though sounds expensive...lol... I hope someone comes by and helps ya along.. As I know I cannot..

I bet the silk would be great in clothing. The thinness wouldn't be a problem there. Silk batting has great drapability.

I think you could combine the silk and wool battings; I just think it would be a waste of the silk.

How about using the silk batting in a wall hanging. It wouldn't really matter how thick it is then. Plus I am not sure if it would be washable and a wall hanging never really needs to be washed. Let us know what you choose.

If the silk batting were mine, I'd save it for something special like a quilted simple jacket.

The silk is not a piece of fabric it is strands.
It is in something like a cheesecloth duvet.

This is the type of silk that is used as batting for quilted clothing. It drapes very well. I think that is how GrannieAnnie was recommending it be used. You would not have to use silk as the fabric, although that would be very nice; you could also use cotton fabric for a jacket, quilted with the silk batting inside.
