Idea Before Design

I had the idea for the small blocks, so i made 35 to arrange. This came out to be 36" by 26" , so I need to add length and width. Please offer advice how to finish into a bit larger, like 20" each way. Keep in mind I am a beginner.

It is so pretty. You will need to add some borders. Maybe a 3" yellow and a 3" green and then some of your purple sashing as a larger border.

Beautiful 4PPs!
First of all, I'd love to see the virgin fabric used to make them. If you could post a pic, I'd sure appreciate it. As for expansion ... there is always the possibility of making more 4PPs if you have the fabric. As a switch, you could put them on point with more of your sashing material between, or another coordinating fabric. Or instead of 4PPs, make hexie or octagonal kaleidos. Likewise, it is not uncommon to use the virgin fabric for borders. Of course, there's always other coordinating fabrics that could be used for borders. |

Thanks for the ideas. I do have more butterfly fabric. I already made a kaleidoscope quilt with this fabric. I got the idea for using the "spacer squares" as their own quilt.

Here's a picture of the butterfly kaleidoscope.

For a "beginner", you show a very good start to becoming a very talented quilter. Both are beautiful quilts.

do you have more of the sashing fabric? I'd put on an outer sashing or a double width of it, then a virgin fabric border, then an outside border of the sashing color and bind in the sashing color. JMHO

Beautiful!
Agree to add sashing around the outer edges of the quilt. Then work out the border widths according to size you want for finished quilt. Great job! |
aashley333 these quilts are beautiful! You have done a beautiful job on these kaleidoscope quilts. I have never mastered this process but have tried. You are an inspiration to try again. On the first quilt in question a nice boarder would be wide enough to complete this quilt. Again this is stunning.

AAshley333 ... Thank you for showing me your virgin fabric and your other quilt too.
Beautiful choices! I was thinking this through a bit further .... to get 20" extra in each direction, if only done as borders (multiple options) the bordering may over power the centre of the quilt. Being that you have the extra fabric, my thoughts would be to go for one more row across and down of the 4PPs. Of course, that is assuming you have enough of the virgin fabric to do it all. Then audition away for which border option looks best. Would let you showcase more of the 4PPs , and still have a nice border around. |
